Kapex ks60

The majority of the moaning is to do with the motor, and as far as I’m aware the 60 doesn’t share the same flawed motor as the 120.
Also, the KS60 is far too expensive for a compact saw, that is only 4kg lighter than its big brother. So in essence I don’t think enough people have bought one to actually generate any significant noise about it, good or bad.

It's waaaaay too early to tell with this version.
The orig. Kapex 110v wasn't reporting motor failures in launch year either.
It will take a while for enough units to get in the hands of users for any relevant sample size. That could take a while since the 60 isn't offered in one of the largest markets: N. America.

I took delivery of one today. 240V.
But I hope it is as good as I dream it up to be.
I looked at the usual DeWalt, Bosch, Makita, Metabo, but the Festool either just scratches my itch or is actually better handling to me.

Hi @Kylec57 I thought about it, but did only opt for the KS 60 E-Set (incl. Light, Angle-Finder and feet).
I don’t have a real workshop so I am very limited on space. There is a shared hallway in the basement or a flat spot next to the house where I do most of my woodworking. Other than that, I take my tools to family for weekend projects to make them happy.
The cart seems brilliant, if you have enough space and a big vehicle.
I plan to use the KS 60 mostly on the DeWalt Sawhorses (DE7035) I just ordered. They have a machine carrier that fits on top and this should give me a nice, fairly mobile, but also very compact solution.
There are some nice posts on here for self-build solutions. Might investigate further.
But I think for most of my use cases, either the sawhorses of the Systainers next to the saw will be the deal.

Did not do a cut, yet, but checked the thing out and tried power and light.
I really like the saw, so far.

Had mine from release day, no issues to report as yet, nice and compact but quite heavy for it's size, extraction is Good but not as good as the 120, accuracy and cut quality are as expected from festool, the led cut line works better than the laser imo but obviously no good if using it outside In the daylight.

I got my Festool KAPEX KS60 E-SET UK 110v about 2 weeks after they were available.
Overall i am really pleased with it, it isn't perfect but what tool ever is, the 2 main things i have issue with is the the trenching mechanism is pretty crap & you have to be really conscious of maintaining the same pressure to keep the trenching level when doing multiple passes as there is too much flex in the bars & also it's easy to very slightly alter the depth when flicking the crappy rotating depth stop back & forth when swapping from trenching & cutting.
Also i am not particularly a fan of the slightly recesses insert (to work with the angle finder) as it makes thing a bit dangerous when cutting small pieces as it tips the small piece of wood forcing the use of a made up zero clearance lay on table if you want to keep all your fingers.
I am not convinced designing the whole saw around the angle finder was a great idea as it not something the majority of people will be using all day every day, on the odd occasion i have needed use it like a couple of months ago on some degree level skirting up around a stairwell where every single piece of skirting was a different angle this feature was absolutely fantastic & was very impressed with it, but tbh thats the only time i used it properly since i had the saw, also its a PITA for flying off the back of its back clipped location when carrying the saw.
Would also agree with others that the saw really isn't that lightweight & i find it pig awkward to carry by the handle & mostly end up carrying it in my arms or on my shoulder.
They have changed how the side extensions connect from how they are on the 120 making it much much of a PITA to make your own ones & attach them.
I think the dust extraction is pretty average with a 27mm hose & most of the crap flies out the front vents in the blade guard, but i do plan to upgrade to a larger diameter hose which will hopefully improve the dust extraction significantly so will reserve judgement on this.
Overall its a great saw & i am well pleased with the purchase, but i did hesitate massively about purchasing it due to all the issues with the 110v Kapex 120s & like yourself i am still very nervous about it. I am really hoping that Festool took this issue on board internally & went with a different armature manufacturer for the KA 60s. Bearing in mind my previous 2 x Elu PS174 saws ran for about 25yrs & apart from the odd bits needing replacing over the yrs from wear & tear i never feared the motor would suddenly die.
Lets hope we have many happy years creating sawdust with the these Kapex bad boys [smile] [big grin] [wink]
