The Kapex was introduced 2007. The first comments on motor failure seems to appear in 2012. If you go back through you would find less than a dozen "individual" seems to have posted about an actual motor failure. If you go back to the beginning of the Festool Problems sub-group, you read of a number Kapex issues that were ultimately resolved. Some taking months to find the problem and resolve it.
This forum is like all others on the web and they all have a similar issue.
Someone posts a question like "Do you OWN a XYZ and if you do OWN an XYZ what do you think about it?"
You can guarantee that of the 30 response to the post that 25 are from people that DO NOT OWN THE XYZ but want to respond and interject there opinions on it anyway. 10 posts will side track to about their dogs/cats/motorcycle helmet laws, etc. that have nothing do to with the actual question. 10 posts will say they should instead be looking at a ABC model and not XYZ because it is too expensive/poor service/etc. 5 post will be about somebody that knows somebody that knows somebody that had problems with it or did not have problems with it. And finally 5 actually people that own it will respond to the original poster, maybe answering there question and maybe not.
There are a number of other subgroups where general conversation can and do occur on this forum (and maybe should instead of in the problem forum.)
Answers take time and just because you or I think that failures should be analyzed and fixed in 24 hours because we spent $$$ on a product is ridiculous. Some things that just break can be resolved easily and quickly. Other issues like the motor failure must be researched, especially if it is only affecting less that 1% of the ones being manufactured. When there is a ghost in a product, you have to determine if it is in the sourcing chain of the material acquisition, design process, in the actual manufacturing process, in the distribution chain, in the end user or in the environment it is being used in. Is it happening to 200 distinct users or just to 5 users multiple times?
As an Engineer, you must go through the process and look at every aspect or if you make a quick assumption and just say, "completely redesign the motor" and that was not the real problem, you end up chasing your tail and still end up with the same issue of a motor is failing.
So let Festool's engineers have the time to properly do its due diligence and find what the problem is and resolve/fix it.
My suggest would be a locked sub-group under Festool Problems where someone posts a problem about a tool and Festool posts the ultimate solution. There is no good reason why someone who is having a problem with a tool must wade through 20 posts that each contain 50 replies just to find the ultimate answer. The group would have one post that would hold all the issues regarding the Kapex, one post regarding the routers, one post regarding the sanders, etc
Example:
Kapex:
Problem 1 (date identified: xx/xx/xx): Kapex fence not aligned. Solution: xxxxx
Problem 2 (date identified: xx/xx/xx): Kapex miter slide grinding. Solution: xxxxx
Problem 3 (date identified: xx/xx/xx): Kapex motor housing leaking. Solution: xxxx
Problem 4 (date identified: xx/xx/xx): Kapex motor failure. Solution: xxxx
This way someone looking to buy a Kapex has one place they can go to see what issues the Kapex has had or currently has and can now make in informed decision if it is a deal breaker. It will also show that Festool is taking the issues seriously and finding solutions/fixes.
