Kapex powder coat chipping

Hi all. First post. I have owned the Kapex for a few months now and love it. One minor issue I have been having is the coating is chipping away in a few spots.
I was wondering if there is some touch up paint or something that I could apply to its surface. This would also be useful for my TS 55 and TS 75 bases as well.

Another question about the Kapex. I really would have liked my right stop ruler to have a notch in it like the left so as it doesn't impede with certain angle cuts.
I find it a bit of a pain to have to take the thing off every time I want to make a bevel cut over 35 degrees on the right side.
Does anyone have any solutions for this.

Thanks,
Blake

Blake,

Firstly, welcome to the FOG!

A similar issue came up for the first time (to my knowledge) just a week or so ago, from a user here in the UK. From the sounds of it you may have the same issue. In his case, the paint was flaking off in quite large pieces. Is yours coming off quite easily, or is it just small chips from knocks/impact?

I've just done some searching, and for the life of me I can't find the thread - I'm sure I didn't dream it....

Blake,

I own one of the first Kapex delivered in Los Angeles, CA, plus two newer Kapex. None of mine has needed factory service, nor have mine had coating issues.

A week or so ago this Kapex problem was discussed here on FOG.

Normally Shane from Festool USA would pop in to say just call the service department, but I think Shane is on a short vacation.

The Festool Service Department are nice folks. That tool-free number in the USA is:

800 554-8741

Just give them a call Monday to Friday. I am sure they can help you.

Here's the thread Jonny round boy mentioned: Link

(I also remembered the thread, and that there was a typo in the title, so I did a more general search.)

Maybe Peter or shane can move these threads to the tool problems section and fix the title for future reference.

edit: title looks ok now, at first it was powercoating or something like that.

I have the same problem with the powder coating comIng off in places.

It might be helpful if you guys post pictures so we can get an idea of the extent the power coat is peeling/chipping.

Also maybe if Shane was PM'd your serial numbers he could see if all these bases were sprayed in the same batch and it could be a fault just with that particular run. [scratch chin]

Guy, step one might be to find out if there really is a problem or if this is a case of overly picky users. No offense intended to the guys having this issue.

The only comment I would add is that although I have only had mine a month it has been given the Darcy treatment since day1 and the paint is fine on mine, and I dont use Armour whatsit on mine or read them bedtime stories! ;D ;D
