Kapex spins up but blade brakes almost immediately

So, I figure i'm doing something wrong or have something incorrectly set on the Kapex.  I have read the manuals and could not find a 'safety' feature that I may have missed.  When I unlock the trigger and drop the saw the blade spins up then immediately brakes.  I have tried and read everything I can find but have not been able to find out what I'm doing wrong.  Any help would be appreciated.

It is a 2 part trigger, I am not really getting what you are doing.

You don't have to trigger the blade on to lower the saw head.

Yes.  I am aware of 2 part trigger.  I am unlocking pulling forward and down.  Then pulling the trigger, keeping it pulled.  The blade begins a spin up then immediately the motor shuts down and the blade stops.  I am unable to make a type of cut.

Hi I dont have one or ever seen one, is the blade tight and seated ok, have you tryed the speed contol. all packing removed.

A true, certified ( [wink] ) DOA wouldn't spin up at all.
More like a FOA, from the sound of it. Operator error seems rather unlikely...

Sounds like an issue with the electronics, not operator error. Give your dealer or Festool service a call Monday. Sorry your first posts on the FOG had to come about this way but I'd still like to say:

I have tried all suggestions and everything i can think of.  Have to wait 'til Monday I guess.  What a bummer!  Doesn't even have any sawdust on it yet.  Thx for all the responses.

Who knows - maybe Rick will come along and say that the speed selector switch needs to be rotated to the stops seven times and then it will work.

Nope, I got nothin'. There isn't any aspect of the electronics that I can think of that would cause this. However, What is the saw plugged into? If it is plugged into a vacuum, then try it on a standard outlet. It is possible the vacuum might not like the electronics and is cutting power. (or a surge protecting power strip).

In the event there is just a loose connection in the saw, try bringing the motor to speed without moving it to the down position. Heck, it really wouldn't hurt to cycle the speed control a few times.

Contacted Festool last Monday.  Ran thru a couple of questions and tests with technician.  Festool sent a new saw.  Got it today and guess what .... it works.  I'll pack up the other one and send it back.  Hopefully they'll be able to figure out what was wrong.  Again, thanx for all the responses.

You've just encountered the less visible Festool benefit - high quality Festool service and support.  I read many posts in other forums that nit-pick each and every little feature when comparing Festool tools to other tools.  Posters whine and complain about the cost of the tools.  What they don't like to discuss is something as mundane as service and support.

What the nit-pickers (no, not you) don't see to catch is that good quality service is part of the cost of Festool tools.  Being able to talk to a real, live, qualified technician is a major benefit.  Fast turnaround for repairs is critical.  Long term availability of parts and accessories is super-valuable. 

Isn't it nice to know that your Festool tool is connected to a long line of people ready to help make sure that it works for you?  [smile]
