my 2007 KS120 stopped working yesterday, in the morning it would not go on untill i wiggeled it and it worked. then in the afternoon i pressed the lazer button and the lazer turned on for a few seconds and then went out on it's own. from then on it refuses to start.
i shaked it in all directions, played with the cord, nothing!

could the brushes be worn? the lazer won't go on either. it's has always been bolted to a table, no jobsites or cord pulling accidents.

Is it plugged into a dust extractor?  If so, have you checked the connection where the cord plugs into the vac?

Tim,

The bushes being shot should not prevent the lasers from turning on.

I passed it by the guys in our service. They said it sounds like a loose connection or possibly a problem with the electronic module, but it is hard to say for sure.

check for a short in your cord. i had the same problem and it drove me nuts for a day. sometimes it worked then wouldn't until i moved the saw back and forth and it would come on again until i moved it again. had a small kick in the cord.

thank you guys for the help,
i had a friend electrician come over to check it out, the current is coming in normally. only it doesn't get past the circuit board.
there is 220 v going to what is apparently the engine break, when you pull the trigger that current stops.
the brushes are good, as are all the security switches. the problem must be in the circuit board.
i will contact festool tomorrow, i don't know how it goes with an out of warranty tool, i bought it used so it's not even registered at my name.

the part finally came in after 6 days! someone probably brought it to the dealer by foot from germany...  ???
lucky me that i was able to use the panelsaw to make the cuts i would normally had done with the kapex.
not very serious imo, when one of our john deere tractors needs parts they come from germany the morning after you ordered.

it's a shame that because of broken electronics you have a saw that is mechanically in perfect working order, being completely use-less. for the next version they could think of an over-ride funtion that still allows you to use it. again modern tracors have this feature, everything is controlled by electronics, but should they fail you can turn a switch and it lets you finish the job and go home with limited funtions.
