Well I got a UG stand for my kapex a couple of weeks ago from Festoolproducts.com .  I'm liking it more each day I use it.  Sure Festool could have made it better, but for how compact it is and how quickly it sets up and breaks down, I think Festool did a great job with the UG stand.  In this video I show setting the stand up and a general overview of the stand.  I have another video, which should be up in a day or two, on packing the UG stand back up.

Overall I feel the stand is perfect for jobs that your in and out of, and not leaving your saw set up.  On big jobs were I'll be setting up for a while, I'm going to make some larger extensions.  But still use the cart, because I can quickly fold up my saw and take my Kapex with me at the end of the day.

Thanks for watching

UG-KA-Set Kapex Portable Stand

Bottom line, is it worth 800 bucks plus tax?  I think i can use existing horses and make a bench up for 1/8-1/4 of that cost and it will have full material support.  that one little support post on the extensions looks like it would be flimsy and tend to wobble.

The cart seems cool but I'd rather buy the cart separately and skip the extensions.

Dave R,

Is this something you purchased?  Or was loaned, or was given to you if so by whom?

Just want to put the understand your review.

Cheers,

When I first saw the video of the UG stand I wanted it bad...  So while I was waiting I made my own extensions.  Then the UG stand finally came to the US and boy was I pissed at the price, come on 800 dollars.  I then saw the stand close up at a show and thought this wasn't for me, to much money and the extensions were too skinny.  I wanted to give the stand a try and now that I have a relationship with Festoolproducts.com I was able to get the stand at employee pricing.  When I first got the stand I was going to bash it and rip it apart.  But I've been using it for over a month and I really like it.  I love how easy it is to setup and most of all how compact it is.  A lot of the time I go from job to job and this stand is awesome for that.  This will not be my only stand for my kapex, I will work on a stand for when I'm setting up on large jobs and need a longer and wider extension.  But for the most part this stand earned my respect.  Having used it for some time I would spend the money on it, just not right away. I hope festool does a bundle package or lowers the price.  My tip for you if your thinking about getting the stand is call your rep or go to your dealer and play with the stand.  Once you see how quickly you can setup , the price will be the only thing stopping you from getting it. The UG stand preforms well.

Dave,

Festoolproducts.com is a url.!  Not a company!  I'm not saying I have any issue with what you say in your review...but you have to say "who" gave you it or "who" sold it to you and at what price.  If you paid a reduced rate you need to say what you paid for if it as it was not list price that will effect our opinion of of the review.  Please say that up front. When you don't and now with your history here... I'm not sure about wanting to watch or trusting your reviews. IMHO

Cheers,
Steve

Steve,

I don't think it's fair to expect Dave or any dealer to reveal "dealer/employee pricing".  That would be Festool-dealer privileged information like any other business relationship.  In my opinion, I don't see a specific price making a difference, even if it was less than public pricing.

Ken, he does need to state he did not buy it at list price ... to say the price he paid for it.. is not needed... but to no say how he got it is.

So please Ken don't lose site of my issue... if you buy it say that... if you are given it by a dealer...at dealer cost..say it... just please do not lie to me by omission.

Cheers,
Steve

the video was good dave and thanks.  I do not feel that he needs to tell you how much he paid. I think he made it clear that he paid for most of the stand and the review was fair and balanced as to his take on the stand, how he likes and uses it and what he did not like.

I have been using my stand since February and still really enjoy using it. and my only gripe is  the wings should be wider including the extensions but for 90% of my work it has worked great, is easy and quick to set up, faster then saw horses and for guys like me and dave and others who go from job to job and usually from day to day to several days it saves time and is easy to cart to set up.  if you set up at a new construction house, large remodel job and your set up  stays there for weeks, then time to set up and take down is not that important., unless you have to knock down ever day.

but it is a breeze to just lift saw from van roll to set up and attach wings and cut wood.  with this set up it is compact where saw horses, 2x4's is bulky, and usually you do not have stops for repeat cuts.

anyway.  thanks again dave

Have you carried it or rolled it through a house up stairs and set up in a bedroom that you would be remodeling in? I almost never cut outside maybe in a garage but most of the time it is in the room unless it is only a bathroom. Would be helpful if anyone uses it in this way to let me know how it works. If there is any problem getting through a finished house without hitting the walls?

i think jmb did a video of that. it was like the monaca grand prix lots of tight bends and not run of areas. looked very nimble thow.

I do alot of work in peoples houses and dats where the Kapex and Ugstand shines!

1. Its light!
2. Easy fits through door ways!  Unlike other chopsaws when your carry them your carry them often diagonally against your chest which then makes it difficult to walk through a door way front ways on and is bad for your back!.
3. The stand with out arms extensions attached  is very very small which is good for cutting small pieces of timber if arm extensions are not required.  Unlike other mitre benches they are large and can not be made any smaller like the Dewalt stand!

4. The kapex chop saw slides with in its self so you can be right up to a wall about 30mm away making it only come out about 600mm!  Unlike other chop saws they slide back out meaning you have to be away from the wall about 400 -500 mm plus the chop saw is about 600  so a total of 1000 -1100 mm  which is MASSIVE in a small hall way and not practical at all!

Take my word for it their is NOTHING I mean NOTHING out on the market which is better for use inside peoples homes in small tight areas.  NOTHING!!!

I do have a Kapex just haven't found a stand that works for me yet.

I've rolled it through a house before and it turns really well, but the floors weren't 100% done.  I would be worried about rolling the cart outside then over finished unprotected floors.  Throw a drop cloth down and you'll be fine.  As for stairs I went up 2-3 small steps fine.  The cart I feel makes it just as easy to carry your kapex up the stairs and the cart adds very little weight.

JMB nailed it by saying their is nothing like it on the market. The UG stand really shines when your working in different homes constantly and you need a compact stand that works flawlessly with your Kapex.

Yeah I what I meant above was as a package  the Stand and and kapex.  Just having the ugstand with another chop saw wouldnt work and having the kapex with another stand doesnt work but having the Kapex and Ug stand together completes it.    Having them together is what makes the kapex! So portable and brilliant for small areas and working on different jobs every day.

Carpet stairs you can pull the kapex up the stairs but not brilliant but if its oak or anything solid then I wouldnt recommend doing that at all!  Its very easy to carry by grapping both bars either side and lift it up infront of you if you get me?

Going down stairs carpet or no carpet its best lift it also and carry it down with the stand attached I still find it the easiest mitre chop saw to carry for its size.

If you have a friend its really easy to carry they grap the bottom bar and you have the top bar they just simply lift it when needed then but it back down and you carry on carting it around unlike others you either carry it all on your own all the way or both of you carry it all the way as you dont normaly end up letting go half way to let the other person to carry on the rest of the way lol unless you felt like being a little harsh on ya mate lol

I would rather have the extensions vs. the stupid cart.

I like to have a surface under/around my saw.  You know, a place to write something down, set your tape on, a pencil, frosty Pepsi and some place for the ash tray. [big grin]

you could easily make a tray which could go underneath and folds away under the kapex [tongue]

Yeah, you could but, why spend 800 bucks just to have to make something for it?

That is some expensive bent up closet rods.

You guys are killing me. Just when i thought i could do without the cart now it seems like something i must have. I need to find a forum where they do nothing but bash Festool to stop myself before i do something i won't regret.
