I'm currently in the middle of a large baseboard project and really need to get a cart and supports and I think I'm just going to break down and buy this setup.  My big question is does anyone know of somewhere that I can get a replacement stick on tape that is in imperial and not metric?  I would really like to have an imperial scale maybe a metric/imperial scale.
Thanks,

you should check out "the best fence" by "fastcap" excellent set up specially designed for the kapex, and a fair bit cheaper in price but not quality. Comes with a metric or imperial tape for the fence that you set yourself. you will have to purchace or build a stand for the saw though. dewalts fold away work stand (not miter stand) is small, compact and lite and also comes with their saw attachment, all you have to do is cut a piece of ply to fit the kapex.

I have looked at the fast cap setup, in fact I was really considering the pro3 model, but have decided it's more than I really need and takes up quite a bit more space than the festool unit.  I also am not real excited about ordering something that I can't actually touch and see.  I'm just a DIY'er who likes the best, but hopefully I'll have the kapex bolted down in my woodshop one day, but the small scale of the UG kit will suit me better for now.

I like my Kapex on the UG. If you saw how little room I have now, you'd laugh out loud... I'm in the process of fixing that but I can't really imagine wanting to build something so I could give up my UG.

I'm not sure why you want to actually measure and relay the measurement(s) when you can transfer the measurement(s)?

I have 3-meter and 6-meter tapes made by Hultafors and called TALMETERS that make it easy to transfer measurements from the work to your Kapex/UG set up and not care about the numerical aspect. That alone, eliminates many possibilities for error - reading the tape, how the measuring tape relates to the cutting tape, remembering/stating(w/helper) the measurement/writing the measurement, reading the measurement that was written, setting the cutting tape, etc...

Every misstep is an additive inaccuracy.

We all know materials move and some more than others but those things matter in assemblies.

The concept of not measuring, but rather, transferring measurements accurately isn't something that hasn't been done over and over.

Sorry cannot help with the UG stand etc but agree with Tom re measuring. Only ever use one tape measure/ rule on a project that way you get consistant results.

3 carpenters on the job i'm on compared 3 different tape measures and all 3 gave differing results.
Obviously mine was the accurate one.  ;D

I've seen that problem myself.  When I worked for a cabinet company quite a while ago, we had a wooden blocks mounted on the walls in several places as test blocks.  Everyone was required to check their tape against the master every day, and adjust their tape accordingly.  We wore through a bunch of tape measures because we were always bending the tabs on the end to match the test block, but our work always came out pretty close.

I can't find a Talmeter tape measure from a Us distributor. Amazon charges $100 to ship one from the UK.

I  think one of the dealers on here stocks them or did. Not sure if it's Tom above or Bob, hopefully someone with more info can help further. :)

Tom stocks 'em - he brought them in specially for the FOG members. Here's a link to the 3 Meter one:
