Hello All,

I've been working on building a complete set of kitchen cabinets for the past few months mainly on weekends.  I'm almost done with the construction of the cabinets and ready for the finishing process.  I started a picture blog of the build to document it for posterity since this is my first kitchen.  If you would like to check it out and follow along go here

Thanks for looking!

Jeff

Really nice work--excellent workmanship with top-quality materials.
Your are saving yourself a bundle! (Maybe enough to partly pay for all the tools and clamps)  ;D

Thanks for showing; it's a project you can be truly proud of.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks a bunch for posting. Very nicely done. We have a (i think) very similar looking kitchen cabinets which are made by a local carpenter but though without the dovetailed drawers.  [thumbs up]

Have you tried a Leigh dovetail jig ? After using one I shied away from the Porter Cable and others, from the sounds of it glad I did.

Thanks for the kind words guys!  It is a very gratifying project but a little overwhelming sometimes.

Nigel: The reason for the full width rails is just a design preference. Something I've grown up with I guess.

JLB:  I've never tried the Leigh jig.  It looks like a good jig though.  I did have a 24" Omnijig that did a great job but I sold it a couple years ago and I kick myself now for doing that!

nice!

umm your draw runners  locks under neath your draws  they blum correct?  you have some white bits on the orange bit I have not seen them.  The ones I use are like that but with no white turny thing.  I assume they have extra adjustment?!?

Like to know cus i will go for them ones if they are better.

Just had a few blum things arrive to day for a job! which I might post here on Fog soon. Not posted any my recent projects lately.

I think you will find that's a made for the USA Blum product. One of my distributors, Richelieu, sells on both sides of the border and the USA Blum products are only available there even though they show them in the on line catalog. In Canada, Blum sells the Euro based products.

gutted!  Am i right in assuming they have extra adjustment?!    Because I am edging towards using hafel draw systems because they have sideways adjustment and the Blum ones dont.  Which is annoying!    Looking at the USA draw locks they must have sideways adjustment?

What extra adjustment you after brett? The movemto adjusts in out sideways and tilt and up n down

Great looking project Jeff, wish I was your finisher!

They are LOADS better than the Blum tandem runners I get!

Wonder how much more they cost

JMB

JMB, sorry for the previous bad information, I haven't had a chance to check these out yet or there availability. They are fairly new and cost $24.24 CDN for a pair of 22" with locks plus $3.86 for the separate Depth adjuster. This is roughly $4.50 more then I pay for Tandems. It will be interesting to see the price you can get them for.

I manufacture kitchen units for a living. I wish I could spend the time on each project like you have, but it is not commercially viable.
I love the dove-tailed drawers. Overall excellent job. Well done....

Thanks Kitchendude!  I wish I had more time to work on this project so I could get it moving along quicker.  I'm ready to start the finishing process now, we'll see how that goes.

I am always interested in ways of working, so I wonder how you would approach this project differently.
Do you mean that your clients won't pay for your time for a project like this, or your would streamline the process through material selection, automation and installation?
Yes I know you can order boxes, drawers and doors all made to specification and delivered for the same price that Jeff payed for the wood. Is that what you mean or just the time spent?

Jeff - let me be [not the first, but one more] to say thank you for all of the documenting of your process that you've done.  I started going through the whole blog and realized how much there is to what you've done!  I'm pretty well tooled up and I'm on the verge of starting to build some shop cabinets (home-made sysports, etc. to get some experience and then move on to some cabinetry for around my home.  I fully admit that I'm going to be plagiarizing from your work, and I'm even more excited not to get started.  I'll try to remember to post up some of my work here.  But hey, great work man.  - Brian
