I do not know how long this has been available, but I thought it might be worth drawing attention to it for those doing more than the occasional pocket holes. I do not have this so it is not an endorsement, however I do have a Porter Cable jig that is identical in the way it works. The PC was available in the early 2000's, and I was more than satisfied with it. The one difference is the PC has more metal than the Kreg version, but the Kreg plastics seem exceptionally strong (IMHO) so that may not make a difference. I see this as being somewhere between the various kits and the Foreman and worth looking at for those doing more than the occasional pocket holes.

I still have the PC (collecting dust) after moving to the Foreman.

I got the P-C jig because it was made from machined castings, and at the time it was priced exactly the same as the Kreg.

I’ve been using more dowels lately, but th P-C jig is excellent.

Agree but I do not think it is sold anymore.

Yeah.  I read it was a out of production.  It probably was not as profitable as an injection molded piece.  With the metal castings there is always some after casting machining required.

Injection molded parts generally are precise enough that no machining is required.  But they do have to insert metal bushing for many of these molded parts.

Here is my theory:

When I was a kid, all the parts of my bicycle that broke first were made of plastic.

Nowadays, the parts that fail first tend to be the metal parts.

So I am of t he generation who intrinsically believe that metal is better.  People born later have a different opinion.  Heck, they make bicycle wheels (spokes and rims) from resin nowadays.  They are probably nearly indestructible.
