Hi guys,

over the next coming weeks i'm looking to do some racking in the new van, and i'm struggling to come up with ideas,

Then I thought rather than making fixed shelves, what if I used the Kreg Shelf Pin Jig to allow the shelves to be moved to suit what systainers I buy next.

Anyone used this method?

I can't see why it wouldn't work. I'd use those mini fix type fixings for the shelves , that lock down. You know like Howdens have on the larder/oven units where you lock them with a slotted screwdriver.

I've only fixed top and bottom shelves with dominos and glue. All the others are fixed with pocket hole screws. Only takes 5mins to move one and I've never had one break.

I have used the Kreg Shelf Pin Jig. It's cheap but it works.
The main advantage over a complete (Festool) LR32 system is that it fits in existing cupboards due to it's small size.
It's missing a front fence to 37 mm (American brand?). So I added a wooden fence to the front for using it to 37 mm from the front of the post which in combination with LR32 is a standard for hinge mounting plates also.
I also grinded down the drill bit to fit in a Centrotec chuck. With the collar it just fits the chuck.

They're good aren't they :)

Just used mine on my recent build for shelves and blum door hinges. I made a couple of spacers from the carcase base and top to position them then used the pin to align the next set of holes.

I also did the centrotec grind but found the collar wouldn't quite fit it was bottoming out against the centrotec chuck. When I looked at my spare drill that is bought the collar was smaller and thinner . Swapped it over and it works perfectly now.

I like your fence attachment on your Kreg shelf jig. I'll have to borrow your idea  [smile]

I replicate gable panels on job sites that have had water damages and I can't always be guaranteed a gable panel that has access from both sides to clamp the jig to the panel edge.

I don't understand why Kreg designed it this way as most, if not all cabinets I encounter have the 37 mm set back from the edge?

I used the rockler shelf pin guide. I also used the "l" support pins.  And a few pocket screws as added measure.  I put the shelves in at an angle ie hole 3 in front and hole 4 in back, it gives just enough slant to keep the tools in place "most of the time" http://festoolownersgroup.com/workshops-and-mobile-vehicle-based-shops/2015-ford-transit-racking/

I love it I haven't got round to making the extended fence giving it the 58mm hole positions for the sys az draw units but I marked a58 line the whole way up my front face and made two etched marks on my jig on the top and bottom to line them up with my pencil mark and clamp then drill only had 2 wholes that were give or take 2 MM of the line due to me not tightening the clamp up enough but this system is to easy ! Saves the £350 for the lr32 hole system !
