Larger MFT

Festool used to offer the aluminum profiles to make a larger table before they changed to the latest MFTs.  They were 2 meters long.    I know because I bought a pair and super sized my MFT 1080 with them.  Unfortunately, space became more of an issue so I am back to the 1080.

I know everyones building their own solutions for larger MFT's and I've looked at and admired many of them. I for one think I'll just get a Festool MFT 3 basic and join it together with the one I already own.. I'll then make a couple of smaller workstations around half the size of the MFT 3's these workstations either with or without casters could have a low shelf to  hold a few systainers, and with a mft type top  that can be height adjusted from 50cm to the MFT'3 height. Then I could for example set  all 4 tables  close together to make one large working area or move them to seperate areas if I was for example  finishing one project while gluing up another.  I also don't like having drawers or systainers fixed under a workbench, I want that area mostlly empty or if not empty then at least have the flexibility of having systainers/sortainers/toolboxes on sys carts so I can move them round closer to the work area..

to sum up:
a mobile setup that can be transported to the worksite or set up semi permanately but where I can move tools and materials closer to where I'm working, or configure it all as one big work surface.. I don't see the point of reinventing the wheel when the MFT3 basic matches my existing table exactly and can be joing either as a square or rectangular worksuface or broken up into seperate work areas, each with my homade wing systainer island mentioned above and a couple of extra sawhorses to flesh it all out..

If you made the MFT/3 much bigger (big enough to cut 4 x 8 sheet goods) it would be difficult to transport, and very heavy to carry.  SO the multi MFT/3 solution pushed by Festool makes sense. For using the MFT/3 solely in the work shop, some longer profile would be nice.

But I would buy two full MFT/3 sets not the basic MFT/3 and the MFT/3 set. As all the extra parts that come with the set are well worth the price difference.

Yes I was looking at the price difference between the basic and the Full MFT/3 and it's not really that much more at all, so it makes good sense what you are saying here. For shop use where I cut down larger stock I think I'd just use my smaller work station islands and sawhorses adjusted in height so they were at a comfortable working height for that process. I actually feel that for reaching over bigger distance say 40-50cm that a slightly lower table than the MFT/3 would work better for me, I'm 172cm high, short legs long back..
