We are getting ready to do a landscape plan for the house we are soon moving to and we'll need to make a number of rough measurements for plotting existing plants and hardscape locations. After the plan is done, we'll also have to locate where all the new stuff will go. When we did a plan for our current house we went old school and used tape measures (I used a 100 foot and a 50 foot), but that was tedious. This time around I thought we could up our game a bit with one of these devices. I realize that their accuracy is a bit of overkill for what we want to do, but I just think the work will go faster. And after the plan will be done, I can use it for other measuring tasks. I read that the green lasers are more visible. Is there one that would be appropriate for this use that won't break the bank?

Thanks for any advice!

if all you care about is seeing the dot when you laser the target then you do it in the evening because no laser is going to be visible under bright sunny conditions.
