I have several Festools but never really gave the drills a close look.  The for whatever reason I started to look at and research a CXS.  The more I looked into it the more I thought this might be perfect for a home hobbyist like me.  Months passed and I did not make the purchase.  Then came the catalyst I needed....IKEA furniture.

Someone wanted me to put together a recent IKEA purchase and I thought this is a great job for the CXS.  I made the purchase knowing I could always return the drill.  The CXS worked terrific and helped make quick work of the IKEA furniture.  Needless to say I will be keeping the CXS.  While I realize ithat is not for everyone, the CXS ergonomics, light weight and multiple batteries make it a great solution for me.  I liked it so much I searched around, found and ordered a Centrotec set with the Imperial bits us Americans need from time to time.

I wanted to share this story with people that understand instead of someone that asks "you spent how much on a drill?".  I am off now to think about my next drink of the green kool aid.

the CXS gets rave reviews from lots of folks.  I am very happy that you are pleased with yours.

The drills are the one product line that I can't get excited about - at least not any that are AINA. Maybe that will change next year when we get the PDC...

I love my CXS.  CXS with the T18 has been a perfect mix for me.

Might be good mix for me as well.  I kept my Dewalt drill and Dewalt impact driver for now but think the Centrotec might push me to another more powerful Festool option.

I have to agree, that combo seems perfect.
I have the cxs but am waiting on a recon t18. Seems a bit spendy, even for festool.

Hi all!!
I also have the CXS and the T18.
Very happy with my CXS and I wanted to add that I have yet to make the T18 beep or stop from overload while going trough metal or timber which happened to me with Hilti and Makita.T18 sounds like its almost at the end of life thou so i got a 18v Metabo as backup.

good stuff, my next green purchase will be the csx/t18/kapex. at 1.9 lbs its the goto drill for small jobs. my compact dewalt weighs over 3lbss :'(

I was going to get the CSX, its a awesome little drill. I however went with the C12. its not that much heavier then the CSX and it comes with the 90 ro offset attachment(one of them doesnt come with the CSX). plus the C12 is brushless.

Anyway Im glad you like your CSX. Festool does make some good stuff

i just got a csx like. i had a few kitchen fits to do (currently almost finished the 2nd kitchen) the joiner im working with at the moment has a makita drill and impact driver set. but the impact driver noise does my heed in.

the csx is balanced spot on like. it looks a bit weird like but not too bothered about that.

My CXS is my go-to drill for most simple work.

Here's a recent project that required only the CXS, a level, and a pencil to complete. I had my PDC available just in case the CSX couldn't handle pre-drilling three 3/16ths holes in studs to mount the desk, but it handled that, as well as the 1/4" anchor screws to follow without struggle.  All told, there were about 48 screws, lock bolts, and nuts to assemble. No problem at all, and less than half the time estimated in the instructions.  My 7-year old son now has his own wall-mounted desk. Awesome!

All kidding aside, that is a cool project!

That's a very nice setup Frank.  I love hearing about tiny tools getting the job done.  I've got a small lil impactor in my house and NOTHING else.  Never had an issue with it, unless I want to get work done at midnight on a Sunday.  Then it ain't so great (think waking up neighbors).

Heh heh...

Dell is place holding only. That Dell is wayyyy old (20060 and had a few pre-school programs on it for my son while he was learning how to use a keyboard and mouse..  He is now about to inherit my Mac Mini Server which has just been upgraded to Yosemite without server functions. Just have to get it from Florida to Georgia and set it up for him. Time for all the reading and math programs that the Mac App Store has for OSX!! Don't know what to do with the Dell yet, but it will probably end up doing some miniscule task of some sort...

By the way, that wall mounted desk is really nice. I bought the kit on Amazon and liked it so much that I bought a second one in brown for his bedroom in Florida as well.  Well designed and built, and very easy to mount.  Will easily fit a 27" iMac on the desktop.
Better than IKEA products in my opinion.

I got the Centrotec set last night.  After a quick review and test it looks terrific.  Planning to test it out tomorrow while making some new brackets to hang my extra rails.
