Does anyone have experience with the Leigh dovetail jig and the OF 1400 using the 492585, Dust Extraction Hood?

It is meant for use with the Festool VS 600, dovetail jig, but I thought it might also work with the Leigh.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

Hi Tom,

I know I am not answering your question specifically but I have the Leigh D4.  Just recently I used it with my 1400 and except for a cutting across the grain problem, it worked well.  It did generate lots of dust all over everything, especially me.

A the advise of Bones and Rob I purchased the VRS system.  I also looked at the Customer Reviews at various sites and everyone gave it very high marks.  I also looked at a YouTube video.

I received it last Monday and have not had a chance to even unpack it yet.  I purchased it from Woodcraft on-line for $99.  They have a free shipping offer right now so that was all it cost me.

I use the OF-1400 with the Leigh D4R jig and use the VRS.  It makes a huge difference.  Without the VRS (which I did once... ONCE!) I looked like Fozzie bear when done.  With it, only some larger chips dust the area.  The D27 hose fits perfectly in the VRS adapter.  Can't speak for the Festool jig's adapter, but the VRS works very well.

Thanks, Neill and PaulMarcel! I'm still curious if anyone has tried the Festool hood.

I use that setup and the VRS will take care of all the problems.  I used the leigh for about a year prior to the vrs coming out.  What a difference.  It really picks up the dust and the support for the back of the router is a godsend.    Anyway enjoy the combo!  Just remember to lock that 1400 down if you have the DT bit in that one.  I use two routers the old 690 and the 1400.  It makes it easy for the repetative setups.

Another vote for the VRS.  I think the festool part would work ok but the VRS looks to be much wider so it can cover a greater area.  The VRS works great for dust control but it's also a support for the other side of the router.  Pretty simple concept that yields great results.

I use the stock CT 22 hose and it works fine.

While I have not used the Festool part in looking the one I have here It would work OK, well much better than nothing and likely at least as good as the VRS's predecessor the RVA1 which I have also used.  All that being said the ultimate setup is with the VRS for sure.

Best,
Todd
