Lets pull apart a Sortainer!

Seth

Pull out the drawers and look inside. There is "snap-on" locks, 4 each side. If you turn the sortainer upside down they are visible too. I tried to pry them open but they are really hard and it feels like something is blocking them. I didn't dare to use too much force. There is probably some trick to it. I only got the sortainer 1 with 4 small drawers and maybe it's harder to pull that apart since the top is joined with the bottom. So I will sleep on it but promise to get back when it's pulled apart, or busted ;-)

Thats pretty much what I found  when I tried a couple years ago. Thought I might break something.  Gotta figure a way, it would open new size possibilities and drawer configurations. And that would be  [cool]

Festoolviking and Seth.  Make me the third person who tried to pry apart his sortainer and was afraid to contiue when medium pressure did not work.

yeah me to,I went one step further, called tanos, frank told to me that what holds it together is the tabs strength, bending them back is possible,I wanted to make a 3 drawer and a 5 drawer out of two 4 drawers, 16 tabs on each you will break some, I suppose I would be worth it for repair. tanos sells the 5 for about 200 and the 3 for about a 100. that's the cost of 2 the 4 drawers, with no labor( breakage). no brainer for me.

Jeehaa!

I have managed to pull my sortainer apart without too much damage. I will take some pics and add ASAP. Just wanted to tell you that it's possible.

Hi!

Here is a few pics on how a sortainer looks when it's pulled apart:

The way I pulled it apart was to start one corner by pressing the first "snap-lock". I used a screwdriver with a M6 nut taped to the end. I stuck the screwdriver in from the bottom thru the hole to reach the "snap-lock", this way I could get some leverage from the bottom reinforcements. Then I put a shim in the gap to prevent it to lock back again. Then I pressed the next one working my way with another shim and so on until one side was opened. Then I moved on to the next side. To close it back again I used quick- release clamps, one each corner.

no damage, congratulations, I'm waiting for my 5 drawer, maybe I will try it,I can't help but think that the tension that keeps the tabs in place has been compromised, they are meant to be assembled pushing on the tabs once, they are what holds it all together
