Let's talk about saw blades...

I have paged through the 44pg download of Tenryu's catalog looking for the appropriate blades for the TS 55 and descriptions of such yet have not found them...I may be overlooking them but I don't think so.  Perhaps they are too new for that catalog but irregardless this would be a great place for them to explain in detail the options now available to us.  Can't buy it till I know what it is  :)

I have just got 5 of the 7 available blades. Thanks to Ian for getting them to me here in Japan. I will not be able to report on them in any detail until I get to Thailand, where me TS55 is, in Feb. however I have put up an album of photos athttp://meekings.selfip.com/photo-groups/more-groups/2009/Tenryu_Saw_blades/  orhttp://snipurl.com/9koet
the infomation is only of the tooth tip I measured as yet I have no information on kerf width.

I also have a PDF of the TS-55 blades athttp://meekings.selfip.com/photo-groups/more-groups/2009/Tenryu_Saw_blades/TS-55_Blades.pdf

Jerome,

Kerf width is imprinted on the two Tenyru rip blades I purchased for my TS 55.  [Modified 10Jan2009] In the photo below, the kerf width is NOT the last number presented = 2.0mm.  SORRY!!  I believe the kerf width is 2.2 or 2.3mm.  Iain and another sales representative informed me that the kerf width matches that of Festool's standard 48T ATB blade so the splinter strip will not need to be reset.

I would expect it to likewise be imprinted on each of your various blades.

Modified 12Jan2009:
Here are some photos showing my first results using the above-pictured Tenyru Rip Blade.  The red oak is about 7/8 inch thick.  This Guide Rail previously was used with Festool's 48T Fine Tooth blade Item 491952 and 28T Universal Saw Blade Item 490516.  No additional rubber shards from the Splinterguard were observed!!

Finished rip cut with Guide Rail still in place

Closeup showing cut quality - very close to a glue-line ready cut.  Remember the blade is new!

Dave, Do you like that blade over the Festool blade? I need blades for my table saw, and miter saw, and thought of giving them a try. I was wondering on your opinion on the blade though.

Robert,

I have not yet used either of the rip blades I bought for my TS 55.  For the hardwood I use in making furniture, I have a jointer/planer, and most KD boards have at least one decently straight edge, so I don't use a rip blade on them.  My purpose in buying these Tenyru blades is to rip some LVL joists this coming Spring/Summer.  If I try one of these rip blades before then, I'll report my observations.

Robert,

I have the Tenryu gold medal blade on my table saw... It is my favorite blade...  I also have a woodworker II regular kerf and thin kerf.  I like the Gold medal blade better than both of them.  The gold medal is a thinner kerf blade... just slightly thinker than the woodworker II thin kerf.  I don't have the specs in front of me.  It is a smooth cutting all purpose blade!  I love it.  They are close in price but i'd buy the gold medal even if it were more than the forest.

Thanks Wayne, Thats what I need to get then. Thats the first time I have heard of a better blade than Forrest. Any thing has got to be better than what I got though.

As I have said I can't check the kerf width yet however as all the blades are labled 20mm (not 2.0mm) including the Ultra Thin kerf blade this would suggest that as the Festool arbor is 20mm that is the size marked ::) ::) ::) Also since the tip widths differ 1.6mm 2.2mm 2.4mm and 2.5mm (details on my linked page http://snipurl.com/9koet ) I would expect the kerfs to be different, wouldn't you?  ???

I will post details when I can.

Jerome,

Thanks for correcting my error!!  The number I read as 2.0 kerf width is actually 20mm arbor hole size.  Kerf width is supposed to be 2.2 or 2.3mm.

Iain,

Could you list the blade model #'s and their corisponding applications?  When viewing the available blades for the TS55 on Prosawblades site there is no real description of what your getting that I can understand besides tooth count.  I also looked at Tenryu's site but could not find this info there either.  Thanks in advance and thanks for giving us more options!

Hello

Thanks for looking at the catalog, as you correctly state the blades are not in the 2008 edition, but they will be added to the new catalog. In the meantime I have posted the information.

Thanks again

Hello Wayne

You are correct, the Gold Medal is 0.111 and as you state it is not quite thin kerf or standard. I am glad to hear that you like the blade.

Thank you

Iain

Iain,

I got my gold medal blade as a recommendation from Larry at Hartville Hardware in Ohio.  I wish All my blades cut as smooth. The woodworker II thin kerf is close... As soon as they get the blades in for my festool saw, I will try them.  Also, are they making blades for the Kapex?  I like the heft and reputation of the forrest chopmaster, although I've never used one.  I still have the stock blade on my Kapex.

Hi all

Have someone already used the melamine saw blade - PSL-16048ABM2   160mm   48   20mm   ATAFR   .087?   Melamine   $70.00.

Any feedback?

Can the saw blades be ordered online? Where?

Thanks in advance

A.G.

Actually the question that I should ask first is which of the saw blades is best for melamine?

Where can we get more info about the possible applications for each blade?

Thanks in advance

A.G.

So which of these blades are the best for hardwood plywood? Combi, crosscut, melamine, or finish?  Also, which of these will stay sharp longer used on hardwood plywood?  Does the recommendation change for prefinished plywood?
