The event was somewhat more modest than I thought it was going to be. It was held in the back of this store, which I had never been to before, but is sort of like a gold plated l.l. bean. So you had to occasionally make way while examining the tools for folks grabbing leather satchels and woolen sweaters from the shelves behind you. Mr. Lie nielsen himself was there -- I wanted a chance to chat but saw that his time was better spent instructing these teenagers on the use of planes, which was kind of cool to see.
I did get to talk with one of the reps though about smoothing planes. Came close to getting the #3 after making a few shavings with it and seeing that it wasn't too small for my grip (it was a little cramped at the single small workbench next to someone doing tongue and groove work on one side and end grain rabbeting on the other). The plane was still tuned perfectly even after a day and a half of demo work. But I decided to hold off for the moment, and am going to think about it.
