I won a second Festool level last fall at a Gary Katz roadshow.

I have had it sitting in the wrapper out in the shop since then.

I was keeping it in the wrapper so that when it turns out to be like the Toolie I can sell it and retire. [big grin]

Well, I was moving some stuff around and found the level, still in the wrapper.

I looked at it and noticed the wrapper was melted.  It looks like one of the lights had shorted out and melted. [eek]

I will take a picture of it when I go back out to the shop, the AC feels too good right now.

I thought it was weird as hell that happened.

Did the battery disintegrate and chemically ruin it?

The light modules are replaceable.

I don't know, I just caught it the other day.

I think the level is fine, it just melted the whole light part and the plastic housing it clips into.

Just all the plastic is now in a lump.

Darcy, give the service department a buzz. We have replacements for the lights. Those are LEDs, so I don't see how it would get hot enough to melt anything. Must have been something other than the LED itself that caused it. No matter, the guys in service will get you taken care of.

The light was never turned on, it might have been the battery's.

Just a heads up for anyone else with a level stored somewhere.

Thanks Shane!!

Have an issue with one of my lusts as well, noticed the solder connection has failed so I need to get a replacment.  Ugh.  Great level though.
