Ligna 2019

Greeting folks,
After all these years of traveling since 18 years old and have been all over the Germany, Hannover was missing. The biggest small city and I should add the very green city in Germany. So, I decided to visit the city and the Ligna 2019 and I must say it was a nice 10 days trip and pleasure.
Here are some pictures from outside and inside to see how it is looks like.

So, what was new and interesting at the show?
This show is about 70% large and automated machines and 30% goes for power tools, hand tools and material.
Well, Festool has a new table saw with the blade safety mechanism. It was very busy around this table saw all the time and I had to come back 4 times in order to take close up pictures when nobody was there.
And I finally did. [smile]

But!!! oh Felder
Yes, Felder has a new safety future that works great at least what I saw here at the show.
It does not break any thing and it takes only 15 second to set up the saw again.
I was able to talk with a key person from Felder for over an hour and he said that this will be available on all format machines by end of 2020 and Felder, Hammer by end of 2023.

Hammer 2023. If the SawStop patents expire in 2028 (guess - 10 years after TTP took over the SS ownership), one scenario is that most other table saw makers would probably adopt the SS technology or Reaxx's than negotiate and use the Felder's.

Either way, it's good news to the woodworking community.

I wonder if the PCS can be retrofitted to existing Felder/Hammer saws.

Looks like the patent was filed May 19,2010.  I think that means it expires 20 years later in 2030.

Worth reading the patent for anyone interested in the details of how the mechanism works.

The 'new' saw is currently just a prototype, based on the Precisio 70. A rep told me in March that Festool wants to finalise the design end of this year, aiming to launch next year. The Sawstop module (a consumable) is supposedly going to cost around 100 Euro.

BTW In March I was also told that there were two prototypes doing the rounds of trade shows and such. I think the one FS had at Ligna differs from the one I saw in Utrecht earlier this year.
