Locking Ts55Req dust port

I wanted to get every ones opinion or ideas, I want to lock the dust port on my Ts55Req facing upwards. I only use the saw in my shop with a mounted boom arm so I'm not worried about it effecting the job site move-ability. Ive tried taking the side cover off and wrapping turners tape around the port and reinstalling it. That did not work. I also tried taping the inside of the port with foil tape, that worked for a while but it ripped after enough use. My last idea will be gluing it in place, unless some one has a better idea. And maybe not effecting the warranty.

What about just drilling a small hole through the metal saw case and plastic rotator and threading and inserting a small machine screw?  Would be unobtrusive and easy to reverse if you decide to do so.

I used electrical insulating tape yesterday to do the same thing. I was using the festool planers dust bag with the ts55 and needed it to stay pointing upwards  out of the way.  Just wrapped up the joint with the tape. The bag caught most of the dust too.

About 6 months ago I did exactly what Neil suggested with using a small screw. It worked flawlessly and has caused my saw no ill effects.

Doesn't the fact that the port can't move at all cause some difficulty. I would like it to stay generally where I point it but just wondering about completely immobile. Did you point it straight up or at an angle one direction or the other.

I pointed it straight up and have never found there to be any problems or stress on the dust port at all. I do use the saw in the shop with the boom arm so the hose is always going down to meet the saw rather than tugging on it from below.

I took the cover off mine, put 2 layers of electrical tape around the inner part of the dust port. Put it all back together with it pointing up and it has stayed there and looks like it came from festool that way.  [smile]

Could you be more specific about where you installed the screw? I assumed you drilled a tiny pilot hole first? What did you have to take apart to do this? Does this void the warranty? Mine is still under warranty.

Me too. This works well. I only needed one layer.

I pre-drilled a smal hole right where the metal housing ends and the plastc elbow is inserted. I was careful to not crack anything. I'm sure that if I damaged anything as a result of my modification I would be nullifying the warranty. The tape method seems like a safer and effective way to go, I didn't think of it at the time.
