Long life bag not sealing

Hi all,

I am running a CT36 with a long life bag recently fitted.

I noticed I was getting a lot of dust today and on inspection it seems the bag is not sealing properly.

The catch which holds the bag in is not loose, but the tab on the bag is able to move backwards a fe millimetres.

Has anybody else noticed this?

Cheers, Mark.

Mark,

It is possible that there isn't anything wrong with your bag.  The long life bags are really designed for use with routers and planers that produce large amounts of chips and shavings but relatively little dust.  Festool, according to its website, does not recommend it for sanding dust.

Has your usage changed since you started using the bag?

Peter

I must contradict Peter, if there's any dust escaping then it's not good.

Festool does recommend you use it with planers and routers mostly, but that's not because the bag can't hold fine dust, which it can just fine, but because emptying the bag is a lot dirtier and thus unhealthier with fine dust, because of the dust cloud it creates. Planer and router chips on the other hand don't form a cloud which you could inhale. Emptying was never a problem for me though, I could keep my nose away from the dust cloud, or I would wear a dust mask.

The long life bag should hold all visible dust without problems. I mostly used my CT22 for sanding and sawing so it almost exclusively saw fine dust, and the LL bag worked very well, I never found any escaping dust.

Maybe you're not seating the clamp properly, try to see if there's a better way to fit it, and if that doesn't work, give Festool a call. Your LL bag definitely should not leak dust.

I will post some pictures later today.

I will also call my local supplier to see if they have any ideas.

Cheers.

Mark,

Festool Service is also a good place to call, very helpful folks their.

Seth

I haven't had a chance to contact Festool yet but here are the pics.

If anyone is running a CT36 with a long life bag I would really appreciate it if you could check to see if yours is the same.

Pic 1 shows where the black tab should sit in the green latch.
Pic 2 shows where the black tab actually sits in the green latch when under presrure, it moves backwards and the seal is loose.
Pic 3 shows where the bag opening should sit on the inlet pipe.
Pic 4 shows where the bag opening actually sits on the inley pipe under pressure. It moves backwards allowing dust to exit, instead of going into the bag.

Also, I'm not really happy with the hose on this vac, maybe they have changed over the years.
The hoses on the CT's I use at university are very flexible and don't have any sort of "memory"

The hose on my reasonably new CT36 is quite inflexible and coils up when operating a tool.
It can be very annoying and inhibit tool movement.
Is this normal for the newer vacs and are the hoses just not as well made as they used to be?

I don't have the Long-Life Bag so I can't comment on that. As for the anti-static hoses being stiff, I'd agree. My 27mm (came with vac) still won't uncoil completely. I purchased a cleaning set when I bought my vac which included the 36mm anti-static hose. I use the 36mm almost exclusively, with a 27mm adapter for my sanders and domino. Although this hose finally lays "somewhat" straight it's still not as flexible as I'd like.  I just bought the Planex and the anti-static hose for it (36mm x 3.5m). This hose is crazy flexible!
