Looking for a delta sander. Advice plz!+

Hello.

I am a decorator by trade. I have been using a Bosch pmf 180 E to get in the edges and do the fine bits on windows and my semi recent buy a Mirka Deros (brought for mainly sanding interior walls). The Mirka with abranet is brilliant on the flats that I can get to but i would like that same dust free and smooth finish in the corners and small detail. I am looking at the DX 93, RO 90 DX and the DTS 400. My thoughts are that because I have the Deros the RO90's capability to have a circular pad is already catered for albeit slightly larger i guess? (the smaller pad is 125mm on the deros). The DX 93 I like the look of but its pretty much the same as the bosch i have but with better power and dust extraction but that is a guess as i have never used a DX93. Last and probably least likely the DTS 400. I think this is just going to be a bit big for what I need. The fact that you can't rotate the sanding sheet on the DX 93 might be the clincher but what are your thoughts

Of the three you listed the RO 90 DX is the answer for detail/in corner work. I have used mine for refinishing window sills, teak furniture, and boat cabin details. AS well as complex fiberglass molds, and even some acoustic guitar building applications.

The Rotex mode for the round pad, plus the delta pad make it very versatile.

I also have the DTS 400, and use it on broader surfaces that require some corner access. I got it before the RO90 and have tons of abrasives for it - if I had started with the RO90, I likely wouldn't have added the DTS.

Was just thinking because I have the Deros the rotary pad is kind of useless this coupled with the fact the ro90 delta pads can't be rotated ( I believe?) The DX 93 would be cheaper. Do the job as well and have better longevity in terms of sand paper useage (rotating of paper ability)?

I believe the RO90 delta pad can be rotated, as can the sheets of abrasive so you should get the same longevity as with the DX93. This is one reason I would choose it over the DTS400. (Again, I have both)

The Mirka Deros seems a better comparison to the ETS150/125 type random orbital, as it does not have the aggressive gear driven option that the Rotex offers, does it?

The Deros is a 150/125mm pad - correct? - for the detail work you mention the 90mm rotary pad may be more useful than you first imagine.

I didn't realize you could rotate the delta pads on the ro90, thought they were fixed so thank you for clearing that up, think you may have swayed my decision.

I know you can rotate the delta abrasive paper to get the most use out of them.

I can check this evening to be sure you can rotate the base delta pad - I've not yet needed to rotate mine - maybe someone else can confirm as well.

RO90 I was lucky enough to get one at the recon sale.

I know for sure you can absolutely rotate the pad on the ro90 (standard delta head only not the long reach)  the sheet of sandpaper can also be rotated all 3 ways to max the life of the paper.    I'm not positive about the pad on the dx93 put pretty sure the same is true for that as well..

While the ro90 is a very versatile sander for most applications I would grab my dts400 first,  it's hard to beat that little sander!  It is really an exceptional sander.. I like the larger pad because it helps keep things flatter and for things like paint prep, trim and cabinet sanding and drywall sanding it covers more area..  If you work the very tip of the sander a lot you won't get the same ability to rotate the abrasives and backer pad

Yes you can rotate the Dx93 also.  It is the same size paper on the DX93 and the RO90.

Watch the Paul Marcel video on the Ro 90 and you will get a real idea of how versatile this unit really is. If you use it around windows there is a set of 3 edge protectors that will save the caulk line. The pads are very easy to swap out. The delta pads and papers are equilateral triangles, so no wastage.

Thanks for letting us know what you decided to do! A lot of posters kinda forget that part, and - at least for me - I find their decision (and process) to be very edumacational!
