Low Profile screw f-clamp?

Has anyone replaced/modified the wood handle on the screw f-clamp to make it more low profile? Like with a starwheel or whatever?

When using the stock clamp on an MFT side rail they stick out and are easy to bump into.

Failing that, anyone dissected a handle to learn how far the screw thread tang goes in it? All the way? Halfway? Or? (before I try to saw it off..:>)

you could try drilling a hole into the side every so often until you hit it.
