New to Festool, thus a question or two!

Is the LR 32 Hole Drilling System/Cabinet Making System compatable with installation of inset doors and drawers? If so, please provide technical details for inset door and drawer installation using the LR 32.

From what I have read on 32mm Hole Drilling Jigs, I assume that the LR 32 is made for a stictly balanced panel ( perfectly square and to proper width and length). Am I correct in this assumption? If so, is there a way to use the LR 32 to make a half balanced panel where only one side of the panel is used as a reference and thus less need for the perfection of the balanced panel?

Thinking of purchasing the LR 32, but not sure, yet.

Thanks,

James, this is a great question. The short answer is it can be used for inset doors/draws and unbalanced panels. A couple of years ago I wrote a short tutorial on the LR32 for Festool. That tutorial only covers the basic use of the tool so last year I set out to write a much more complete users guide for the LR32. I realized it would take far too much to do without compensation of some kind. What I'm getting at is there are creative ways to use this tool but I can't explain it in a post here, it might to 20 or 30 page pdf. I'm not saying it is overly complicated it's just that all the basics need to be covered so not to produce more questions than answers.

Well get to work Brice!!!!  ;D

I for one would gladly pay a fee for this.

James,
The LR32 system is very adaptable to the 32mm system.  All of your requirements should be in the spec sheets of the euro hinges and drawer slides, such as front setback for holes, etc.

Like Brice said, it could be alot of pages, but without compensation, I don't know who would write that book.

I learned  the system thu trial and a little error.

Thank--you members for replying. I certainly appreciate your incites.

Brice, you have done an amazing amount of work/thinking/writing that has helped us, the Festool users. You are being comended by a newbie for an outstanding job and outstanding loyalty to this group of people. I was glad to hear from you that the LR 32 could be used to make a half balanced panel and inset drawers and doors. That said, it would be great, with all the effort you have given, for Festool to contract you to write a definitive book/manual for the LR 32; one which encompasses the issues of which I have been thinking and those of which, through lack of experience, I have not.

HELLO FESTOOL - HELPFUL INFORMATION = SALES. Newbies like me, who are thinking of a 32mm cabinet making system have to make purchasing decisions on information which correlates to the abilty/ precision of the individual and his/her machines. It would be nice to know how the LR 32 could make more than a balanced panel and fully overlayed doors and drawers. How about half balanced panels and insets? I apologize, as a Newbie, if I have missed reading something on the Festool site, but for now, this is a call for HELP from a company which designs great products.

For now, I'll have to get my mind in gear and try to get that LR 32 to produce a half balanced panel with insets. Not owning the LR and not actually playing with it, I'll be in my head for all of this problem solving. I may need an aspirin once in a while and I'll probably need my Shirley to give me a poke, so I can remerge with the real world.

cd coney, I'll take your good advice and look at Eurospecs and do the trial and error; a method to which I am no stranger ( Sounds like that makes two of us, cd. I'm in good company then.)

PeterK, I was glad to see you encouraging Brice to write a book/manual on the LR 32 and purchasing such a book/manual; implied $$sales$$profit$$ - fame and fortune ( I like the sound of that).

Thanks guys,
James
