Magnifier Light

Man I'm glad I was a geek in the '70's 'cause I sure don't get that leet stuff!

You're not alone!  Shane being the resident programmer might explain what it's doing in "his" software.  Maybe he's also hidden cheat codes.

You dudes are completely out of it. This is "Leet speak"--leet is short for elite, this is a sort of secret language of nerds and geeks, part of it is using a pocket calculator and looking at the display upside down, thus the number 7 makes an "L" a 3 makes an "E" and so forth.

WRT the OP, I got turned on to Mag Eyes (www.mageyes.com) by a local celeb turner. You can put them on and leave them on, pop them down when you need to see something better and leave them up when you don't. I use them a lot. She said she puts them on in the morning and leaves them on pretty much all day when turning. HTH.

I'm sorry that I missed these posts.  I happened to be on line when Shane hit the 1337 post mark and brought the LEET question to him.  Apparently programmers write and insert little pieces of humorous code in certain places of programs as a joke.  I believe that the phrase Shane used was "easter eggs".  As in - looking for them is like an easter egg hunt.  Shane didn't insert that code.

I'm a bit rusty on it now, but I have my Dad's slide rule, and used to actually use it in some of my classes in high school (around 10 years ago). I still remember it being faster than a calculator for a lot of tasks when I was good with it. Now, though, that's a different story...

Steve, I think I have the same problem, but its not from magnification, but insufficient light from an incorrect angle, which can throw a shadow that likes like the pencil mark.  I think you need to get yourself a powerful overhead fluorescent lamp... I'll be setting one up over my MFT soon.

JMB,

Good idea!  For every post now, I'll go back and start deleting one.  [big grin]

For anybody who has fading vision (around 50) and needs better workshop lighting, try Osram Sky White fluorescent tubes. I have replaced all in my workshop and it has changed my life. It's the same as outside on a sunny day.
