Hey all,

I wanted to convert one of my work bench table to act like an MFT top with the holes, i understand that there 20mm, and i have found both spiral un and down curt router bits, I was thinking of using the LS32 to bore 20mm holes in a row  should i use the up or down bit.

and any insight is welcome

thanks

Im not sure on the up or down bits but I do believe that every 4th hole on the LR32 is the same on the the MFT top. Could be wrong, but IIRC read it on here, someone mentioned it.

Seneca Woodworking has a file with the MFT/3 dimensions available at http://www.senecawoodworking.com/blogs/news/5927081-replacement-mft-top-cad-drawings

Looks like it's 96mm on center, so every third hole on the LR32 system

As for up/down spiral - I'm not sure what's best, and it probably depends on what you're cutting into.  The way I think about it, the downcut will leave a cleaner edge around the hole - important for things with thin veneers or where you want a nice finished surface, but you'll have to go slower and with a large hole, you may have to unplunge a few times to help clear all the chips/dust.  An upcut will go through quicker, but may cause some chipping on the surface.  I've never worked with MDF (except when I accidentally cut into my MFT), so I don't know what would work better.

Where are you getting the bits?  Supplier info and part numbers would be great.  Thanks!

I used this bit with my OF1400/holyrails to put the holes for my custom MFT table. Please set the router speed setting at 1.

491072 - Euro-hinge Boring Bit, HW, 20 mm Dia

Hope it helps.

Thanks,
Danny
