I've got an earlier model, bought it a few years back, on the recommendation of someone I trust. I love it.
I think recently that I read a thread in the main board about what SCM saw people used most... or what they'd get other than the Kapex. That saw came up a lot.
Keep reading... I think you'll find that Makita makes a pretty tasty chop saw.

I was just about to purchase a kapex,UNTIL a trip to the depot and an encounter with this blue machine!
i ended up selling a 12" dw718 on craigslist so i had a third down for a kapex,then cashed in reward pionts. till i was shopping at the depot and decided for more than half price less let me try this makita out, theres 30 days to return it!
Well its been 2 weeks and so far im really happy, saw operates very smoooth with the soft start,capacity on crown nested is equall to kapex, blades i have laying around from other saws, and still are a fraction of the cost!(but can be purchased anywhere) saw operates flawlessly and slides very very smoooth on the rails! dust collection i have not hooked up yet(but i did read in the manual theres a optional part for better dust collection!
i do alot of production trim and cabinet installs, so far this saw out performed the dewalt by far. i am planning for a kapex for my personal garage use, but now since i got this makita, i can wait for the kapex or buy another makita ls1016L and still have change left in my pocket!!
maybe festool will have some better promotions or throw in some systainers with a kapex,i can hold off alittle and breath easier..GREAT SAW FROM MAKITA, they changed every thing i hated about the old ls1013!!

Just when I thought there?s one alternative out to the Kapex I have to find out the LS1016 & LS1016L are not scheduled for Europe.
Can someone confirm the positive impression maybe in direct comparison to the Kapex. At least judging from the video the 1016L looks like quite the Kapex killer.

I only bought my ls1013 last year but this one looks even better looks more compact for carrying.

In no way am i doubting the Kapex is capable saw, and the makita as well,
to answer some of your questions,!
Dust collection, well i have read they sell a special part to enhance the dust collection,( I have not hooked up to a vac yet) I also cut most of my work outdoors or in a garage, so for me @ 700 less than a kapex im still fine with some dust sweeping!
This makita saw in my opinion is quieter and softer starting than the kapex!!

Nothing on the UK Makita site, but maybe it's a little too early and they wait for the European holdiday season to be over.

He obviously called Amazon UK and they told him the LS1016 would be available in September.
I just can't understand why Makita UK and Germany said they have no information on this.
Anyway it seems we can take a closer look in September. Depending on the price I would probably try one.

I am down to 2 machine to pick from.The Bosch 4410L and The Makita LS 1016. ???

Just spent the weekend with the Makita LS 1016L (poor man Kapex) doing deck and railing work. My first impression is that it is a very smooth machine, it handle 1x2 to 4x6 passing by 1x10 with no problems. Did some simple trim work, nice clean cuts. Dust collection with a Fein vacuum is about 80%. You have to remember to set the laser to the side you want. Good portability . A keeper for the moment.
I couldn't justify a Kapex at this point and will use the money I save buying another MFT. The only complaint at this point is that Makita has the same quality manuals as Festool

I have the Bosch 12" slider and like it. All the controls are up front, it stays on a stand with wheels. It is a smooth saw, just heavy. Cuts real nice with a Matsushita blade.
Same here, im coming up on the 30 day trail and so far i cant seam to think of myself with out this saw!
its very smooth,quiet,relatively light and compact! Rails are smooth as butter right from the box!
at first i said i was gonna beat it and return it, but i have used it for just about everything this month, and cant even see a scratch on it, it tipped over in my truck 3 times, had all types of molding & loose pine fall on it from making to sharp of a turn and stopping short!
im very impressed, so far its a keeper!!
+ i used my home depot rewards pionts and saved $300, so for the $250 i paid its my go to saw (unless im doing tall base!)
