Master Closet & Other Misc Pics

Very nice Bob.  Did you build it all on site ?

The master closet was all built on site.  I ripped down all the sheet goods in my shop and delivered it all and assembled in the closet!  I work solo and it was easiest for me!  Also, there were 9 total units plus the island...it would've taken me three trips just to get all 9 units down if they were assembled. I had to build this closet fast and that I did!  From purchase of materials to completed was a total of 7 working days!

looks great.
what's the skinny column in the second pic for?

The skinny opening in the second photo is a belt rack and tie rack. They're put out by Rev-A-Shelf and they slide out...they're ok but not the most attractive!  I'm excited to hopefully see it all loaded with clothes!

Thanks Jon!  That means a lot coming from you!  They were long (and I mean long) days, so I guess in terms of hours it well exceeded 56!

Nice Bob, nice.

Great idea for the drawer felt  [thumbs up]

Seriously nice looking work!  cant believe you pumped that closet out in 7 days!!!

what are the 2 stainless/chrome containers in the right vanity drawer?  trash bins?? why two???    also is there an upper pull out in that bay like in the left vanity?

Thanks John!  It's a big transition going from having helpers to working solo!  I love working solo and a lot of my clients are shocked that I don't have any helpers. But it does take a lot of effort to figure out methods to effectively work solo. Also, if there's something that I need help with, I reach out to other local guys that I know and get the necessary help!

As far as the double steel bins in the drawer, they are for the clients blow dryer and curling iron. There is no drawer above in that compartment since those items will be sticking up into that void space. The top drawers in both vanities do work, so there's also small storage there as well!

All the work looks great love the style. Only thing I can think looking at that tv is neck ache at that height

Great job!  Looks fantastic.  The built in mirror will find its way in one of my projects.  Thanks for posting.

Thanks Dean!  I do agree about the tv height under normal circumstances. However, the bed (where they'll be watching the tv from) is about 20' away and it's a fair height for the distance!

Good observation!

Nomad, I love doing the built in mirrors!  We did a similar concept in the master bath of this project except we didn't frame it, I just ran the top molding across the too of the mirror with a dado. And for the bottom I built the cabinets with the corresponding thickness rabbet. The countertop buts up to the glass!

Tim, regarding your questions

Thanks Bob. A couple more questions...

They're still kinda green in the biz so I'm happy to have the work that they're feeding me!

You guys are obviously making a good team.

At the end of the day, there's that much extra storage which is always a plus!
Agreed, you really can't have to much storage...

The finish on the closet is BM Aura paint and the cherry is finished with Sherwin Williams Sherwood precat lacquer.

Did you get a chance to use your Fuji to spray? The finish on the island looks pretty slick in the photo's.

The 15 drawers in the master closet (5/8 natural maple, dove tailed, notched and bored for blum & prefin) cost about $1100.

Fantastic price! I like making drawers, but at that price it's hard to rationalize.

Does your seven days included the finishing (painting)?

I meant to point out when I said 7 days that it did not include painting!

The way my week went the week of the build, install was as follows:

Friday: purchase ply.

Monday: in the shop, rip all of my sheet goods to appropriate widths. Cut the tops, bottoms and stretchers for 4 of the 9 cabinets. Rip and edge joint all face frame stock. 8am-2am

Tuesday:  deliver all of the broken down sheet goods for the 4 cabinets, assemble and stand the 4 boxes. (On site 9am-6pm) travel home, bathe kids & have daddy time...go into the shop, crosscut the remaining 5 cabinets tops, bottoms & stretchers, bore pin holes for adjustable shelves (shop 8pm-3am)

Wednesday: on site, assemble the remaining 5 cabinets, drag the island in the closet for assembly. 9am-6pm, travel home, family time then CRASH

Thursday: on site, build & install all face frames. 9am-5pm travel home, family time, shop time cutting shelves & applying 1x edging. 8pm-12am

Friday: on site, rout, dado & paint the dado of the 1x that will wrap the mirror. Receive the mirror, mount the mirror and install the 1x wrap. Install the wainscot detail around the closet entry door. Install the baseboard and crown.  Assemble the cherry island.  9am-8pm

After paint and stain: install slides, drawers and drawer fronts in the island and in the wide cabinet behind the island. Cut & install 9 closet poles, install tie & belt slide out racks, drill and install all drawer pulls. Other non related tasks on the same trip included installing and trimming a few additional laundry cabinets and clearing all my debris and tools from the garage. 9am-8pm

Last trip was to bring the four top drawers with locks installed, a few additional vanity extras, program the tv, drill a hole in the green hutch for a grommet, vacuum the garage and a few other odds and ends that are slipping my mind!  9am-4pm

Tim, I did not use the fuji. I actually sold the fuji shortly after purchasing it for what I paid for it. I did use it a few times and it was awesome!  Only downside is not having the space to properly spray, so I sold it!

Sorry if I missed it, how did you go about applying the finishes?
