MEGA Deal from Festool UK on PDC 18 'Set' Version

Got mine today but can't open systainer as lid is wrong side of plastic on lower half and if I force it lid will come off, definately been dropped. Should I try and open it to check drill is ok or contact festool first as I don't know if they would send me a whole unit or just the systainer

mine came the same as this and it caused damage to the systainer,the drill and RA chuck also haver minor cosmetic marks,it seems to me that this was a batch of 'seconds' and  that they have decided to offload in the UK rather than their home German market,they should not have been listed as new but instead listed as 'seconds',i will be returning mine,i am disappointed.

Festool do not do 'seconds'. If not satisfied then use the SAI.

I used mine this weekend and thought it had gone into some sort of safety mode as it was running as fast and it was really quiet. Then I realized it had slipped into the screwdriver/torque mode. Pushed it one click to the right and it was back to full speed. I never would have guessed that the torque selector would also change the speed. All the drills I've ever owned are the usual mechanical torque so this electronic torque control is a bit different

Loving the drill, so far my only festool drill was the cxs before this.

  It can take some getting used to but performs way above what may be expected. As the speed is lowered the torque increases providing more twisting force for longer fixings.
  Big jump from CXS to the P.D.C  [big grin]

I saw the PDC back when it was a protool , at one of Warren's (toolfest) festool mornings. To be honest I didn't take much notice and have never really looked seriously at festools drills. Anyway now I've used it properly it is a nice drill.

My systainer came broken but was not surprised because as said above it was only packed in a cardboard box that the systainer fit in very tightly, no packing or protection at all. You would think it would be more cost effective for festool to package them better then the hassle and expense of replacing a lot of broken systainers.

festool are like any other company,out to make money,there was a reason for selling 70 plus units at a discounted price through ebay rather than normal channels,we are not all naïve,too many minor problems have been reported and this on a fan forum,it was obviously a sub-standard batch

One of my systainers was damaged lid and base so I notified back via ebay, yes it's a bit daft that they weren't better packaged coming from Germany and going to individual destinations by courier but one can only imagine that as they would usually ship to the UK on pallet loads someone didn't think it through fully. Let them know and I'd think (hope) replacements will be sent.

So max torque setting on this drill is the selector moved to the last but one on the right...? Which mode is best for this1234? Or does that have no effect on it?

As far as I can tell you can push the selector either all the way to the right or the left as there's a drill icon at both sides. Speed all depends on what you're doing really. If it's a huge cutter then lower the speed obviously.

Drill mode is torque completely off but I've not tried to to see if it still shuts off if you overload it.

Thats pretty much how i had it worked out. Great drill, love it. Probably my go to drill now. Also have the cxs for small stuff.

Haha that got me going...and I have one that I am selling as i dont use it! I want the drywall collated screw gun now after using the pdc for a few days eek!

Just had a quick go on the drill tightening up an old screwed together garden gate I knocked up a few years ago. Using the differing speed and torque settings it was interesting to try out the lower speeds with the higher torque and so on, I really liked the tidy stop and beep over the Dewalts mechanical ratcheting clicking and screeching when it reaches the desired setting, it's much more the refined tool and feels very confidently powerful rather than balls out and spinney. I think me and this drill are going to get on great.

Great for drilling out lock mortices. I did some today and used an 18mm Irwin auger bit and it drilled out almost as fast as my plug in Makita.
