Hello guys,

I have a question regarding trimming PVC/ABS edge banding using the OF1400.

Is it possible to flush trim PVC/ABS edge banding using the OF1400 in conjunction with part 486052 and 486058 instead of purchasing the MFK700? If so has any one of you tried it with good result?

This is part #486052

Found this, guess this answers my question somewhat, but can I use it for PVC edge banding?

I have only used these accessories (on my 1010) with wood veneer and that worked fine. My guess is that with the right bit you can do pvc ok.

And what bit would that be?

You can use it, but:
1.  There is no chip deflector for the OF1400 (there is for the OF1010), and
2.  The OF1400 is one hell of weight to hold on it's side; you'll soon tire.

The two above reasons are why I bought an OF1010 to supplement my OF1400, and I don't regret it.

I used it with a 12 mm flush cutting bit and that worked ok.

I used a very unconventional way to trim ABS edgebanding and it works perfekt.

Beautiful work! Can we see some closeup picture of the results?

Also how do you do the 90 degree corner where the edge banding meet to get a seamless translation?

Looks similar to what I do. I just use the side of a chisel.

A chisel will work with sub-1mm melamine, even a glass scraper will work (done that often enough). 2 to 3mm PVC or ABS, however, cannot be cut that way. It's either a horizontal trimmer (I use a Holz-Her 2360 - the tool which begat the MKF700) or a Rehau Raukantex manual edge trimmer. The Rehau tool does the job, but it's expensive and hard work if you have a lot to do. I mainly keep one for small repair or "fix" jobs out on site because you just can't carry every tool all of the time

That's interesting. I've seen a German item similar to that - can't quite recall when or where, maybe Interwood (the original one in London, not the Johnny come lately types in Maldon who bought the name) when they were still going

Have a look at this video from Timothy Wilmots - about 50 secs in he uses a home made router jig that would allow most routers to be used normally (ie vertically) with a 45 deg bearing bit. Its easy to make and works perfectly on wood and plastic edge banding
