Metal Rod Supports for a bookcase

Hi all, i've been given the task of making a bookshelf on wheels like the one shown in the picture. Any ideas where I can find the metal rod supports that go across the back? It would help if I knew the proper name i guess. AnView attachment 1y help would be appreciated!

However, consider steel round tube instead. I think this is how the shelf on your picture is made. Tap the ends on the inside and connect to the shelf posts with through bolts.

Ideal size to tap 5/16 thread for the end bolts.

You could get a couple of pieces of all-thread and join them with a coupler like this - http://www.mcmaster.com/#hex-coupling-nuts/=14gxb4l

Alternatively, McMaster sells unthreaded rods as well in lots of sizes.  Here's an example in 3/8" size in steel.  I believe they also stock in aluminum.

If you want a shiny silver you can get 3/4" structural steel pipe from Lowes that will look gorgeous. Its a schedule 30 pipe and is used to make book shelves, fences or anything a person can think of. You can get it in 2,3 4 5 7 and and 10 foot sections. It has fittings that go with it that use an Allen wrench  I am making a really nice plywood lumber rack using the 1 1/4" version that can hold over 8000 lbs.

Or you could use simple EMT conduit , but it not super strong.

You probably don't need the fittings, but they are really nice and super strong, each Allen wrench screw is good to 2000lbs weight:

Go to lowes and take a look at it, it's paintable. You can cut it with a band saw or hack saw. I use a Dry Cut low speed metal cutting miter saw with a carbide blade, but you can use the high speed disc blade type as well.

Simplest would be to use 80/20 for the supports and casters. Check out 8020.net

Thanks everyone, should have mentioned that i'm in the UK so a lot of these aren't suitable but searching for 'steel round bar' is helpful.
