I don't remember if this has been posted before, but when threads come up about folding rules there are always comments about the want for metric versions and also wondering if there are rules out there with sliding extensions for inside measurements.

I just saw one on the Lee Valley site that might be of interest.  I am including a link to the page but sometimes the link won't work.  In case it doesn't you can go to www.leevalley.com and do a search for folding rulers and they are the long life rulers.

These are made by Wiha.
Look at:http://www.wihatools.com/600seri/616serie.htm for more folding rules.

OOPS!  Sorry Tom.  I didn't remember.  But at least it got mentioned again.

I live in Canada and bought the metric folding ruler from Lee Valley.
Recently I made my first project using the metric system and using a folding ruler. The project was a small cabinet to store fasteners with the height the same as my MFT so I could also use it to support long boards.
I really liked the accuracy when using this ruler on its side compared to my older steel rulers. Also, the ruler is made of a material that one can put pencil marks on for reference and then erase later.
The pencil used was a .5mm and cuts were made on an MFT with my Festool track saw.
I am now also looking at the new Woodpecker rulers. With their tapered edges I think their accuracy in marking distances should be excellent.

I use this one all the time.
The slide is used practically every day. Together with the new improved Talmeter I am set. :)

Hi Henrik,

I'm not aware that there is a new Talmeter.
Which one do you mean?
There are 2, 3 and 6 meter versions from which I like the 6 m version and it's very robust and works fine, especially with the scribing pin. Never need a pencil any more, except for small dimensions.

Hi,
the one on the image is the new one.
Before they were bought by Hultafors group they were a bit larger, especially the former 3m one was quite large and some versions had yellow metal tape (3m and 5m). I still have the old ones. I got a box of them at a sell out. ;)

The 6m belt clip is good but it is small enough to fit my work pockets. The 3m version is so small it literally fits anywhere.

Hultafors has released a simpler version and some stores only stock that one - I was afraid they were phasing out to Talmeters so I bought a couple of spares! The latest Hultafors version brings absolutely nothing to the table. It is an inferior product to the Talmeter but still not bad - just an unnecessary addition to the line up.

Hultafors ain't what they used to be - they fail at most of their new designs, like hammers and such. They have no clue as to real ergonomics. The Talmeter is a "bought" concept that they actually revamped nicely though.
