Metric Parts for US Imperial tools

Just an FYI, mostly for people who search the forums for this answer.

You can buy the metric parts for US purchased Imperial tools directly from Festools (888 337 8600). I have just purchased:

462622                    Metric scales for OF1400 (this is apparently the older code but they found the newer version)
701458                    Metric scale for Domino 500 (I don't have this tool yet but I know it's in my future )
10001569                Metric scale for TS55

$29.93 for all three.

I hope this is helpful to others.

Yes, I pointed them to the thread posted here (when imperial was first announced) that indicated their policy would be to offer the router scales for free.  Home office was not aware of this policy or the online form indicated.  See reply 351 in the thread (page 12 for me).

I just got off the phone with them and scale alone is nolonger available.  Have to change entire housing is what technician told the young lady I was speaking with.  I only asked for the one for OF 1400 model 574692.  They said 462622 was correct part number for me and there was nothing available on substitution parts list.  Everyone else seems to be doing better at getting options.

Well, I made some progress.  A super nice customer service person is sending me two parts for no charge.

10019131    new part # for the metal metric scale for the OF 1400 (sticky back)
704937 part # for a "sticker" for the TS55 metric scale (not sure how hard this is to position)

I wasn't going to post until stuff showed up, but it sounds like people are getting different answers...

She did mention the $75 option of shipping the saw to them.  It also looks like there are two screws that could be removed to take out the entire black piece of the TS55, but I don't think that's what I'm getting.  Although it kinda looks user serviceable.    [unsure]

Grrr. Looks like I was too nice! That said $30 is a drop in the ocean when it comes to buying Festools!

It's possible your entire charge was for the Domino.  I was lucky enough to have a metric version, but if they send you both the metal scale and the clear plastic scale there's some value there.

Can someone explain the Domino, I didn't know Inch-ing had occurred there.  That makes even less sense than the others if true.

If Festool is making changes where part swaps aren't even possible, that's even more disturbing. Does this mean the fundamental router is now different than the Europe model?  How many parts do people now need to smuggle into the country to fix their machines?

At least as recently as last fall, the US routers were identical to the metric ones, save for the coarse depth scale - which is easily changed and used to be (and maybe still is) available gratis from Festool US. The fine adjustment scale is still metric - even on the US version.

It’s my understanding that the Domino will remain metric...because the Dominos themselves are metric.

That was my understanding too, so I don't understand what parts were being ordered to make the domino metric.

Where I was going with this is if Festool is saying we can't have a metric scale because of a change to the body of the router, that would imply the body of the router in the US is now different than the rest of the world. If there has been a design change to the router, then this should be with the metric unit too, thus a part should exist to make a US inch router metric too, it might just be a different part number than it was previously. I really hope there isn't a Darwinian split going on that once tools got inch labels, they began to evolve separately and now are unique species no longer able to mate with metric tools.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they made the fence height gauge imperial.  It’s purpose is to help you center the cutter on the edge of your stock (which is known in imperial units).  The depth gauge won’t change since it relates to the dominos and there is no chance they will create imperial domino stock.  What makes it all half-baked is when you explain which metric domino works well for each board thickness. Rule of thirds is great, but now they need a chart or calculator.  It’s not a problem for those of us that live in both worlds but for the metric-blind they are trying to appeal to, it’s odd.

I received my order today but there was a bit of a mix up with OF 1400 scale, they sent me an imperial one. It’s useful if I sell mine but I’ll have to call and get them to send me the metric one.

The router scale is 1/16” increments. What were they thinking?
