Can someone offer advice on the best way to remove the clamping collet from the MFK 700? The clamping collet has separated from the locking nut.  The clamping collet is recessed inside the router.  I have tried to remove it by hand and pliers.  I have not used the router before.

Thanks, Storm

I don't have an MFT, but I have had similar issues with other routers.

Try holding the MFT in your hand and tapping the side of the collet with a small (ball pein) or similar hammer. You might need to do it a couple of times, possibly from different sides.

You're looking to apply a quick shock to the collet to get it 'unstuck'. The reason for holding the router while doing this is so the shock is applied primarily to the collet, and does not transfer to the entire MFT like it would if you had it setting on a bench.

This has always worked for me, but other folks may have better or more sophisticated methods to offer...

That's caused by someone burying the empty collet and then torquing it down, while empty.

I had to fix a customer's brand new one the other day. He also had never done anything with it. It had the 8mm collet in it from the factory and it wouldn't accept an 8mm bit. It had been torqued down with no bit so the opening was less than 8mm and it was stuck.

If hammering will not solve your problems...you obviously do not have a big enough hammer!!

I always heard it as "If a hammer won't fix it, you've obviously got an electrical problem".
