Updated video:

Task:
Trimming of 3mm PVC edge tape, changing base/ bits and finally putting on a round over. When it comes to shaping/cutting PVC you have to make sure that as soon as you touch the workpiece (with a spinning tool) that you have to start moving right away to prevent melting.

Also, in the video you will see how little time it takes to switch from one task to another. It's almost real time in the clip. The part that makes it fast and easy is the the way Festool designed the router bits and bases (i guess) at the same time. All the bits have a fine black line on the shaft that indicates a line that should line up with the collet. After you have the two bases adjusted for those tasks, all you have to do is setting the bits at the right depth and you are ready to roll. No need to fine tune the whole set up!

Cheers,
Festool MFK 700

Thanks for adding the video to our YouTube channel for everyone to view.  Great video.

Well there must have been some editing for sure.  It's a law of nature that at least one screw or small part must fall through a dog hole whenever anything is assembled or disassembled on an MFT.  Obviously the segment where the screw falls through the hole has been removed.

The screws are square as not to fit through the round holes  [big grin]

Funny! No there was no editing except for putting three clips in line... BTW, this was my first ever attempt with IMovie...

Great video, and thanks for posting.

That is my only complaint with the MFK, and even then it isn't bad.  I wish we could buy just the motor, because there have been times it would be handy to have both bases setup.

I don't know if Festool will do that but it wouldn't hurt to call up and ask.

I have started to, but talk myself out of it.  The couple of times it would have really been handy were the result of poor planning on my part.

Since when did poor planning become a disqualification for wanting another tool. ;D

There goes Tom trying to separate me from my hard earned money.  But you are right, it would likely make more sense to just buy the basic.  I know myself too well to think I would ever get around to selling the extra base.

Hmm, if you did buy that basic set and were unable to part with the extra vertical base for sentimental reasons, you could use it to make that horizontal routing jig Jerry Work documented.  If I recall correctly, he did a bunch of things so the router base could be removed unscathed.  In your case, you could even drill a hole in it as a pivot point.

Just saying...  [tongue]

That's a great idea, PaulMarcel! I feel stupid for not thinking of that, especially since I had to unhook mine from the side of the MFT to take it to a demo yesterday...

It already has a hole in the base that I use for a pivot. That same hole is useful for rounding over "short" edges using a router rod.
