Hi ,

I am trying to use the MFK vertical base with the radius bit to trim edge banding. The base I have has a flat surface; when trying to trim edge banding it rides on the top of the edge banding rather than the surface of the sheet good. I saw a video that had a different vertical base that had a stepped surface as well as an attachment to lock the bearing.

Does anyone know where to find these attachments as well as part numbers? I'm hoping I don't need to by an entirely new base.

Thanks

It is indeed a separate base, but there is a simple work-around. Cut a simple shim/spacer of 1/4 thick MDF, cut in a similar shape of the base, with some relief at the front, will solve this problem. Just double-sided tape it to the existing base, when needed.
The does not address the bearing stop though. Personally, I am not a huge fan of those anyway. Stopping the bearing can be a bit of a thing. This means that every second that motor is running, the bearing is being forced to spin, rather than spinning with the bit, until contact is made.
These bearings are notoriously hard to lubricate, so you are taking your chances.
Also, you are effectively scraping the bearing, rather than letting it roll as intended.

Agreed. I would add that if you bearing does not stop and roll on the edge as you are trimming, then you need a new bearing. It should not spin uncontrollably.
