What size router bit works in the MFK700 for edge banding work?

I've seen Halfinchshy's technique of modifying the base to accommodate a longer bit, but I would rather not do that.

For trimming edge banding ya need the festool bit.

The shaft is a little shorter in length to accommodate the base.

Though I dont have one. That is what I remember being taught in a end user class

I use the 1010 for edge banding w/ the accessories it makes it easy.

For me it did have a learning curve, but after learning a couple of tricks

I got the hang of it pretty quick.

I have done haflinchshy's modification and it was very much worth it. The use of a longer and down spiral bit made it so much more versatile because I am not restricted to thin edge banding. And never any tearout with that new bit.

Methinks that Festool should send him a check for the design improvement that they will hopefully incorporate in the future.  [smile]

It depends on the thickness of the edge banding but I really like this Freud Carbide Flush trim bit for laminates etc. They are cheap and readily available.
I like the Festool 491670 (change carbide blades) for thicker >3mm edge banding. The one pictured in the catalog is incorrect.

Me too. I use a couple of carbide spiral downcut bits (one from Trend and one from Wealden Tools), and can trim a 20 mm lipping. Ideally the carbide bits need the shank shortening and I have yet to find anything that will do that.

I bought the Festool edge banding router bit, played around with the height adjustment on some scrap, and trimmed 10 large pieces.

Went like a dream.
