I am completely new to Festool and a lot of this so forgive the completely novice question but,
am I really supposed to cut 2mm deep into the brand new MFT/3 I bought as a splinter guard?
(Yes this would be after I have squared up the rail and I assume this is made with the rail set to where the factory stops are pre-set.)
I just thought I would ask this group before cutting into such a nice work table...

Thank you,
Paul

Yep, absolutely cut into the top. When it gets too many cuts in it, just flip it over for a fresh surface.

Yep that's the video I saw. Just wanted to make sure I was seeing it right. Check twice, cut once right?

Thank you,
Paul

Welcome to the FOG!  In all honesty the members here are all over the place regarding cutting into the table OR cutting into a sacrificial surface placed on the table.  I personally cut the heck out of my table but neither way is right or wrong.

When you talk about making that first cut and having everything square ... and the pre-positioned stops I offer this advice:

There is a great 3 part series on the MFT/3 that was shot at a Training class.  Great class.  I am in the background of the video in a Festool green shirt.

You can find the second and third videos after watching the first.

Send me a PM if you want additional help.

Peter
