MFT 3 or MFT 1080

I am also interested in the Walko bench.  I imagine that the freight would be the biggest deterrent to getting one here.  But if there are enough folks on this side of the pond interested it might be that we could get them to ship a few of them at once and spread that cost out a bit.  I would be willing to look into the option if anyone else has interest.

Kapex MFT

It looks like Herr Doktor has a few more tricks up his sleeve for us.

Notice the hole pattern(s)?

I noticed the hole patterns. Very strange, but I'm sure there's a great reason!

One other thing I noticed, and this is going be a HUGE plus point for the 'system', is the height - it's listed at 790mm high, NOT 900mm - meaning that, once the Kapex is on top, the bed of the saw will be the same height as an adjacent MFT3!!!

These Germans, they think of everything! ;D

Hi Ned,

I emailed Walko after (I believe it was Raft who put) the original post on the FOG about the Walko sometime early last fall.  Within 24 hour I received an email back saying they are working on US distribution, that it would be priced about the same as the MFT, and it would be probably after the 1st of the year.

I sent Walko a 2nd email after the 1st of the year about when it would be available in the US.... again a reply within 24 hours that said they are working on US distribution & it should be available soon...

That's all I know about the Walko    Maybe a few more emails will spur the process on...

Well thats great unless you are 6'2" (1880 mm), the saw at 1110 mm would be much better. The closer to your eyes the better, my Sawhelper stand puts the bed of my saw around 38 3/8" or 975 mm, a little higher would be ever nicer for me.

Now we have three different height tables, MFT/2, MFT/3 and MFT/3 Kapex.

Jim that's a good idea. I'm really looking forward to Walko being released here. As much as I like my MFT is doesn't work for everything, the Walko looks like it fill some of the holes in the MFT capabilities.

I have both an MFT 1080 and an MFT 800 and it is very unlikely that I will purchase an MFT3.  However, should it become available, it is very likely that I would buy a Walko Proffesional.  Notice in the video, how many Festool tools that the demonstrator is using.  It's a great combination.

Same here. Here is the best single photo I've seen.
Michael,

Unless I'm missing something, that's actually TWO Walkos put together.  I didn't know that you could do that.

What I like about Festool and Walko is that they put a lot of functionality in a minimum amount of space.

Regards,

Dan.

Right, with two Walko Pros opened up and joined into an A-frame comfiguration you don't need a wall to lean on. It's a very interesting system. Unfortunately, all the dealers seem to be Dutch.

The Walkos look very cool and is gathering a lot of interest.
If they're a small company, I would think Festool would consider buying them or doing an OEM arrangement especially to control distribution.

OK Jim, what do you know about Walko coming to the US?

Ned

Hmmm..., my trying to view the photo link you provided revealed another annoying limitation of VISTA - it doesn't know what to do with an Adobe PDF photo!  I tried downloading the recommended update fix, and it doesn't work either.

The link I provided was to www.walko.nl, which isn't a pdf.

Michael had a link to a single-page pdf, perhaps you're talking about that?  In any event, it sounds more like a browser configuration problem than a Vista problem.  Doing a typical installation of Adobe Reader should set things up with your browser and cure this.

Ned

Well, you know the Dutch.  I bet the even speak and write in Dutch! (The nerve!  ;D )

Dan.

I need an assembly bench for my new workshop - I really can't, at this moment, justify spending the money for an MFT - especially since I'd need 2 of them.

It'll be permanently positioned, so I don't need the transportability of the MFT, either. So I've just ordered a steel-framed industrial bench, 1800x600x900 high. The top surface is just 15mm chipboard, so I'm going to replace that with 18mm MDF, drilled with the 20mm hole matrix for the Festool clamps (a place I used to work has, I think, just got a CNC router, so I'm hoping to get them to drill it for me!).

I will probably get an MFT3 at some point, which I'll combine with the fixed bench for larger work, and use on site. But it's not so much of a priority for me at the moment.

If anyone is still having trouble understanding the (awful) Babelfish translations. Let me know which bits you think look interesting and I'll translate them for you properly.

Walko isn't actually that new, they have been trying to promote it for years. Nice to see it might have found some new fans though :)

I hope that Festool does not do this because there is far far too much of this kind of takeover going on in the world,  In particular I hoipe they don't do it to control distribution.  Festool already controls more than enough distribution, thank you.

The Walko music definitely puts me in a different mood than the Festool music!
