Trying to set up my new toy ive realised my square is less than square any one have any recommendation's on purchasing a really square, square? It must come in cm and mm

Thanks CCC I was hoping to find the 300 mm Triangle but that seems to be discontinued? That looks like a nice bit of kit.

Just for reference purposes and in an effort to possibly help, what type of square are you trying right now?

Peter

I used my Swanson square to square the fence. Here is the Video.

I have done a lot of work since I purchased the MFT3 table but I have not used the fence yet.
Most of my squaring work is done using Qwas Dogs. Here is theVideo

Cheers!

I have a carpenters square, ( el cheapo from home depo) cost me about $10 bucks about 10 years ago. I think it's time to take it up a notch? I just can't seem to get the cut square, when I flip it over its out about 3-4mm

You can adjust the rafting squares to make them square with a hammer and punch. "Squaring" the Carpenters Square. With an error of more than 1/16 of an inch a new square might be in order. Check the square before you purchase it.

You can also adjust the sliding square.

For speed squares, one can grind or file metal squares or plane plastic ones as needed. Again it is best to check them in the store before purchasing.

I've had luck calling Woodpeckers and asking if they had the discontinued product in stock. I've gotten several items that way. Even if blemished, their squares are still dead nuts accurate.

Update on the MFT 3 out of allinment. I messed around with it yesterday with my cheapo carpenters square  and went through the set up procedure again  its now within acceptable limits for me, I still will need to improve it. But at least after I made my first cut when I fliped the wood over it looked square, nothing hanging under the track.
Thanks for all the good tips, I'd never heard of squaring a carpenters square like that, cool!  I will definitely be calling Woodpeckers this morning, to see if they have any old stock.
I'm really loving this FOG group, it's literally  like having thousands of years of woodworking experience at your finger tips. What a great resource. Thanks again.

Woodpeckers is offering their big "framing square". I got an email from Woodcraft with the offer. I use mine for squaring the MFT, my SawStop fence, and other tools.

Woodpecker has announced they will be manufacturing a square for setting up the MFT, with design and orders to be released on 27 Jan 2015.  As with all Woodpecker "one time tools", they will take orders for a four week period, with shipping approx 4-6 months afterwards.  Of course, this will not help you in the meantime.....but just something to keep in mind for what's coming.....

Gary,
Do you have a link to this announcement?  I looked and could not find anything.

Thanks

The CEO - Richard Hummel - posted on another thread on FOG that they are introducing a MFT specific tool for squaring up the table.  Won't be as multipurpose as one of their squares.  Specifically for squaring.  I would guess it probably fits into a couple of holes, but don't have more details.

That will be interesting. I would be interested in something specifically designed for setting up the MFT. Right now I use the 450mm one time tool triangle. It works great. Prior to that I used their 1281 metric square.

But something specific for squaring the MFT would be a good thing. I can see something to be used in conjunction with qwas rail dogs.

i use this same method and its annoying to me as hell. esp when i have to keep changing stock thickness and cross cutting other dimensions. and dont get me started on ripping narrow stock thats smaller than the width of the guide rail. stop blocking/clamping/under rail support?? im sick of it! lol sorry for the rant but a table saw and kapex will be on my list.
