I’ve been wanting an MFT for some time now and finally decided I’d go with the MFT/3 with the fence etc. Here in Australia I’ve been following how much used tables go for and they’re usually about $900 to $1000 (new ones cost $1400). So I’ve been waiting for a second hand one to come up and thought with the money saved I’d buy some dogs etc.
Over the last few days I’ve now had a change of mind, or the idea of making my own MFT has come into the equation again. I do pretty much all my work out of my workshop so portability isn’t a concern. I’m still undecided and was hoping if some questions could be answered I might be able to make a decision.
I figure for $1000 AUD, I’d be able to buy a parf dog system mark 2, plus quite a few accessories such as dogs, squares etc.
Now my only concern going down this path and not the Festool MFT/3, is that I’d want a fence for repeat cuts. I don’t see myself using the angle gauge. I’ve searched quite a bit and I’ve seen incra and woodpeckers aluminium fences. I was hoping people could post pictures and maybe a link of their fence and where they got it from? And whether they’d go down the same path again. I’d want a scale and flag stop at an absolute minimum.
I was also looking at benchdogs in the UK,https://benchdogs.co.uk/collections/frontpage/products/copy-of-fence-dogs-1250mm-fence
This seemed like a really attractive option as it’s low profile and can be attached using dogs. They also sell a kit in a systainer with dogs and a fence that comes in multiple 350mm lengths. Has anyone used these? I can’t seem to see anyone on FOG that has posted pictures or used them?
And one last thing, how do you attach the guide rail to the table? I suppose rail dogs would be an option along with just butting up the rail against the dogs with rail clips and away you go? Any other options?
I appreciate the input.
Thank you,
Andy
