From the excellent photos you posted above, it appears to me that the cross sectional profile of the channels below the top V-channel of the new MFT3 is different from those of the old MFT. Those channels on the new MFT3 appear to have a trapezoidal shape whereas those on the old MFT are rectangular. Does anyone know of functional reasons for this change in design? I can envision how Festools clamps can fit in either channel. I can also envision modified clamps and other hardware that is designed to wedge and thus grip tightly in the new channels with very little clamp force being required to secure whatever is wedged.
