Hey all! I am a newbie to this site and I really have been enjoying all the great innovations and enhancements I have seen. I needed a simple way to make my MFT mobile, specifically to pivot it when cutting stair stringers at the job site. I set the angle on the miter gauge and make all the run cuts, then turn the table 90 degrees to make the rise cuts. There are many other situations on the construction site that necessitate making some cuts and then turning the table one way or another to make room for the next cut. Those of you who have to make do with on site conditions rather than a home shop know what I am talking about. When I do use the MFT at home I find myself wanting to be able to turn it sometimes and just be able to move it around the shop in general. I began to be concerned about what dragging the legs across sub-floors, driveways and even smooth garage floors would do to the feet of the MFT and decided I needed to come up with a simple, lightweight solution that would not interfere with folding the MFT and transporting it to the job site. On a whim, just before starting a job I bought some casters and dug through my scrap piles and put together these Frankenstein looking prototypes. They work quite well. The carriage with the long arm attached to it raises the two legs on one end about 3/8" off of the floor when the arm is lowered to engage the other carriage. I simply level the other carriage with my foot or hand and lock the arm to the carriage on the opposite end with a Wood River knob. Locking the arm in place raises that end and the MFT is now mobile. For transport I take the knobs off of both ends and remove the arm then fold the MFT up. For less than one hour assembly time, and the cost of 4 pivoting casters I am pleased. Next time I have a day between jobs and am feeling industrious, I will make some that look a little nicer and maybe some kind of quick release to take the carriages off of the legs during transport. If this doesn't work for anyone else it sure helped me.
