MFT Square First Impressions

I got a call from Woodpeckers a couple of weeks ago saying they had an MFT Square they could ship to me. I had not signed up in the initial offering, but had called later indicating an interest.

I unboxed it last night and was surprised to find it smaller than what I had anticipated from the videos and comments I had read.

I did hang it off the side of my MFT with the supplied hanger, but also secured it with a flex-tie. I didn't want it clattering to the concrete if I brushed by it.

I checked its squareness with my Woodpeckers framing square. Dead nuts square!

I then checked the fence on my Sawstop and two miter gauges I depend on to be absolutely square. Again, dead nuts square.

My first impression is that this tool will prove to be far more useful than I had imagined. It, like my other Woodpeckers tools, is well made and beautifully finished.

Did they need frequent resquaring with the framing square?
or how will it be 'far more useful' if the fences are already square?

My guess is the MFT square will never need adjustment. I wanted to be sure it arrived intact and truly square so I checked it with the framing square.

In terms of being useful, the MFT square will be instrumental in getting the jigs I like to build to be perfectly square.

[member=15289]Birdhunter[/member] I hang my MFT Square on the backside of my MFT but with the hanger facing inward. It does not stick out past the MFT frame and can't be bumped by clumsy me. It's secure back there and handy when I need it.

I love it. I use it to do a squareness check of the MFT fence and saw track just before I do final crosscuts to length. I now have complete confidence that those crosscuts are as square as I can get them and the squarest I've ever done.

I would think the only reason to ever need to adjust the squareness is if it dropped and then it might not need it. I have found it's the perfect size for its main purpose and hopefully will find other uses as time goes on. Even if I don't, I still think it was worth the price for my piece of mind when doing crosscuts on the MFT.

I also received mine the same way. I did not sign up for it originally but on a whim called them and was able to get one. I'm wondering if maybe they were not as successful on their first run as they thought they would be. Does not matter. It's a solid tool, well-made and I'm glad I have it.  Good suggestion on the tool hanger. Will be reversing mine tomorrow
