MFT3 Extension -- how?

I've been using a stock MFT3 for a while now, and it has changed the way I work.  However, I find myself wishing it was about 16 to 20" longer.  What is the best way to extend the length of a stock MFT/3?

Thanks,

Len

How well do the UG wings support wider pieces like cabinet panels. Can they support the weight of off cuts without tipping over? I have been looking for a similar solution and this would be great if it worked as it's also a portable solution (which appeals to me).

Depends on how you configure the wings.

Thanks Tom! Excellent illustration that seems like a very versatile setup that will allow you to handle narrow and wide pieces depending on the configuration and it is portable.

I have used two methods...

the first is for an old router table that attached to the MFT3. It was only about 400 mm across and was supported (on the right of the picture) by bracing pieces that went down to the MFT3 horizontal leg brace.

The second method, which I still use, requires a folding trestle to be made to support an old piece of MFT3 top. The trestle has a removable sacrificial piece at the top that can be adjusted for size to get the height exact. In my case by turning the sacrificial piece over its height is then exactly 900 mm for supporting pieces without the old MFT3 top.

I forgot to add that the latter method is also very flexible because it can be hung onto any side of the MFT3, can take huge loads and provides a stand alone trestle for all sorts of other uses.

The locking knobs rub the square channel on the MFT as you tighten them. I got tired of this so I removed a little material on each knob.

Other advantage of the wings is they fit the Kapex and CMS.

I like the fact that they are so portable, would you recommend them over a second MFT as they are similar in price. I don't have a kapex and don't anticipate getting one.
