MFT3-MFT3/VL-CMS Basic UNIT-CMS-OF

Hi jmb,

Dragging this thread back up as I am either about to buy the cms or mft3/vl to use with the router module mainly.

I'm learning on the mft3/vl, but going to meet my local Festool guy next week for some demos.

A few years on do you have any updates, more pros and cons?

Cheers
Jimmy

Well.....  In this review it was the first time but also it was the very last time I used my MFT/VL its practically brand new still.

I was very much site based at the time and I'm still about 60%+ site now. I'm slowly becoming more workshop based.

So it depends if you are site or workshop based

If you are site based I would 100% go with the cms basic stand.

If you are workshop I would likely still go cms basic but the MFT/VL is still good.

I like getting out a very light cms basic which is quick to setup up.

Where as the MFT VL requires heavy MFT and takes longer to setup.  Benefits to VL it has more weight behind it keeping it more stable and you have a large support table for jigs or what ever you want . So all the things which are more useful for workshop based work really.

Sorry can't be of much help.

Cheers that is helpful.

Does that mean you have a mft/vl for sale? [wink]

I'm mostly workshop based and when I do got out the mft normally goes with me.

Although I currently don't have the ug extensions I would be buying them in the future and I think the router module/fence issue would bug me.

Ah yes basic is shorter so yeah they do get in the way.

A think the UG arm extensions are a must by the way.  Well depends on what you are routing I suppose.

Doesn't bother me to much really because you don't want the UG extensions inline anyway because if the timber is slightly bent  or the router fence isn't adjust dead square with the table your timber will be running off and then hitting the UG extensions so it's always best to keep them back anyway.

I do the same with the kapex I keep my UG extensions back slightly so not to interfere with anything.

Throw me an offer? I might consider because all its doing it gather dust.

I was thinking of making a timber so I can fix my VL to the wall and make a pocket hole machine with it.  Not sure yet.

When you connect the ug extensions to the mft I can see it working on the right side but I guess it doesn't work so well on the left with the mft fence as the fence over hangs the table.

I'm testing the cms and vl out tomorrow so will let you know if I still need a vl!
