Micro Systainer 3 Domino Bit Case

That looks very neat! But could you not fit one more cutter in there? Maybe with the 4mm cutters at either side?

It's already two more cutters than come with the 1060-piece kit.

Not everyone uses a 4mm cutter, so you'd actually lose a spot if you squeezed the 4mm into the ends but never actually used 4mm cutters.

I could probably fit another bit if I removed the wrench storage, but at least for me, my wrench seems to go missing any time I need it. I only have the two 4mm bits (one is Festool, the other is Amana) because I needed to make sure those both fit since I'm selling them on my Etsy page. The 4mm cutters have a slightly different dimension for the wrench flats so I needed to tweak the design for that.

Just how many cutters does one need for a df500 ?  [eek]

All of them.... [big grin]

I've been working on this design on and off for a few months, and I'm finally happy with it. It can store seven DF500 bits along with the wrench in a convenient form factor.

That's a pretty cool way to store them. I have never liked the way they are "supposed to" fit in the actual insert that came with the tool. I have always kept mine in the box that came with the Domino assortment, but it's one of those injection molded live-hinge things. They always break eventually.

If I were looking to buy a container to keep all my DF500 bits, I'd buy it only if it could hold all my cutters including the 4mm cutter. What's the point of having a container that leaves something out?

I'd rather lose my wrench than a cutter. You can use something else in the shop to replace the wrench but not the cutter, esp. the 4mm one! [tongue]

Just looking at it from a space optimization point of view. I wonder what else could that space be used for?

The OP has the wrench and a pair of 4mm cutters in there. I suggested moving the 4mm cutters to the outside only because the corners of the Systainer may not allow a longer cutter.

4-5-6-8-10 so five.

Plus spares makes ten.

My girlfriend constantly tells me I'm a power tool nerd, and she mentions Festool disturbingly often.

But she's an avid collector of Kaweco fountain pens, with a collection of over 50. The 'holy grail' (as yet never made by Kaweco, despite versions in brass, steel and aluminium) is a copper version of their pen. So I bought a brass one, and had it copper-plated and polished by a local electro-plating company and presented this little jewel to her on her birthday.

In a micro-Systainer............  [laughing] [laughing] [laughing] [laughing] [laughing]

That's a cool little jab, putting it in a Systainer, but how does a pen fit in a micro? Split it in two?

The inside dimension of the Sys3XXS is 102.11 mm

Kaweco's shortest pen closed appears to be 97mm, but that one comes in copper.  One of their lines is 105mm closed, so that should fit in an XXS on the diagonal.

That's a SWAG, though.

Just dropping in a 2nd time; if I remember right; the inlay comes with a perfect spot for the 'box' the Domino bits come in in the assortment systainer. The wrench also has a specific spot where it press-fits in the inlay.

I invested in the all the Festool cutters, plus all the 3rd party cutters I could find, since I sell these on my Etsy shop and needed to make sure they'd all fit correctly. Otherwise, you'd likely only need to store the 5/6/8/10 and maybe the 4.
