Hey guys, I was seaching craiglist and found a lot of festool stuff that someone is trying to sell for a good price. I would have to somewhat drive out of the way to get them, but it may be worth it. I am mainly interested in the router portion of the sale since I have a ts75, ro90, and a ct26. However, if you guys say it could be a good buy, I may just buy it all and maybe clean them up and would be willing to probably sell to some people on here to help pay for my outrageous school fees.

Here is the link.

Please let me know what you guys think.

Man, those look pretty rough.  I wonder how deep the rust goes into the routers ? ?  The vac hoses are clearly repaired but probably work fine. You will need to buy new pads for the sanders.  You should test everything before you buy. Look inside the vacs. Have a good look at the filters, they may need replacing. Run the routers with a narrow straight bit to see if the shaft wobbles. Good chance the Plug-It cords and maybe some of the tool side connectors need replacement.

Check the prices on filters, pads hoses, etc before you go to check them out and add all the to the price.

Good price yes, but maybe a lot of work and head aches too  ???

I had seen these already and I personally wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

If rusted externally, I can only imagine the condition of the motors, electronics and other internals.

Just my  [2cents]

I agree with Seth and Shane, too many warning signs.

Cheap price yes, but there is a clear reason for it. I'd stay clear and put the money towards better tools.

Probably is too big of a risk, but just as an FYI, Evapo-Rust works magic.  Available at Harbor Freight and most auto parts stores.

Evapo-Rust

Evapo-Rust will remove the rust, but there may be pitting left behind and the rust in those pictures looks pretty deep.

Whoa! Severely abused. Been buying and selling used Festools for 6 years now, haven't seen them this bad yet. Move along and never look back.

Who treats their tools like this?

Last line on the sale announcement:

"Possible trade for guns."

I hope he treats his guns better than his tools or one day they are gonna blow up in his face.

A year ago I bought a jointer and a Meber bandsaw that had been stored in an un-protected horse barn.

Both looked to be in about that condition. They required a complete tear down, including cleaning of the motor and then a re-build. For me it was worth it because I ended up with a 20" Italian bandsaw for $300 (and a 8" jointer with Bryd head for $500), but it was not a fun process and the toll of their abuse required a lot of work to fix.

I would assume the same for these.

I wouldn't buy these abused tools.

It looks like they were either left out in the elements day after day or they were damaged in a flood and the owner left them in the sun to dry off.  Either way, they are probably worse INSIDE than what you see OUTSIDE.

Another 'NO' vote.

Those tools appear to be flood damaged. If they were, the electronics in them will NEVER be right.

I'd probably take them if they were free, but I'd plan to spend the winter rebuilding them to see if they were salvageable because I have the time to do that. As they are, though, they have no commercial value.

Good... Working... Condition.... Okay.......... [eek]
Wonder how bad the plunge sections stick on the Routers when you try to use them in their current, working..... condition... [big grin]

Sorry, I forgot one thing about my re-builds. Both machines required a complete tear down and replacement of their bearings and other movement surfaces.

This meant that all the bushings and dovetail ways had to be disassembled, de-rusted, cleaned, lubricated and re-assembled. The wheels in the bandsaw would rotate but had a lot of run out and clicking noises from the bearings. A bearing job fixed the problem as there was rust and other debris in them.

Don't pay $1000 for these tools. They don't appear to even be in a condition where you can safely check them out.

IMHO they should be given away for free to someone who has the time and aptitude to take them apart and try to rebuild them without any expectations. It would be a great learning experience and they may end up with at least one or two working tools.

Run- don't walk- away from these. it's only the siren song of the green logo that would keep any of us from seeing this clearly: 'I have a bunch of rusty, abused tools. They're all yours for $1000'. $1000 dollars. That's a lot of money. Way too much for a package of stuff that is neglected and appears to be Way too far gone. The time it would take- and the VALUE of your time invested- to completely tear down and go through one of these to insure that you addressed all issues would add up very quickly.

I have bought some used festools, the CT22 looked pretty eat p but it was a very good price and I checked it before I gave the guy $200 for it.

With that being said, I agree with Shane. looking at the rust on the outside is a pretty god indication of the electronics you cant see.

Sense you just interested in the routers, You can find pretty good deals if your patient

I would not go on these either.  It looks like flood to me also as others have stated.  Look at the white plastic on the cts that looks like they have been under water.

+1

And as jobsworth ( I think) said, if ur patient a nice deal could come up. In my area ( nj) some guy  sold a ct33?, a boom arm, a domino 500 and an ro150 for $500

You don't need flood damage to make the tools look like this. I'm pretty sure it's not flood damage, they would look even worse than they do now and they would not work anymore. People are right though there's water involved, probably rain.

From all the pictures you can see the owner was very careless in every way possible.

- Both hoses of the CT's are taped up, damaged from being careless.
- The plastic of the CT's and systainers is heavily discoloured, meaning they were left out in the sun A LOT.
- The pads of both sanders are completely discoloured, turning orange, again meaning they were exposed to a lot of sunlight.
- The rust on the routers is probably from being left outside in the rain, not just once, but often. I don't see how they could still plunge comfortably.
- The handle of the ETS 150 is taped up, so the shell is probably damaged.

Only the LS130 looks ok, probably because it's hardly been used. Not a tool you take out very often.
