Hey all,

Looking to get the Milwaukee m18 cordless vac for clean up work in my workshop. I’d need it to be attached to a floor nozzle with a suitably sized tube so i can use it standing up with a vacuum head (similar to the festool cleaning set) It’ll be purely for cleaning up wood dust and potentially hand plane shavings etc.

I’ve done some research and no one really uses it with a tube nozzle attachment, they just use it as is.

My question is, does it have enough suction to be used the way I intend? I’ll be using it with a 12ah battery.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Cheers
Andy

I’ve been using one since the first generation.  It’s great for small size work, and wide h tubes but I would never consider it for extensive cleanup the tub is just too small.

Used a friend’s briefly, attached to a track saw. With it’s short hose and a full battery it did a fine job collecting most of the dust from a couple of long sheet cuts i did.

However my general opinion of it was that it wasn’t that powerful, and i would imagine that attaching a long tube and asking it to work against gravity cleaning up the floor, it wouldn’t be great. Plus the small tub size.

Im sure it could work reasonably well, but definitely temper your expectations and ask yourself if it would still be useful to you.

It’s no CT or shopvac.

I doubt you will have any luck with this except for small dust particles. The vacuum and provided hose does well for small cleanup, but it is definitively not a CT. A cheap Shop-Vac will outperform it easily.

It’s more than I’d like to pay, but would the CTC sys vacuum be up to the task?

Thanks

I have this exact vacuum and have mixed feelings about it after a year or so in use.  Mine lives in my reloading room, and is mostly there to clean up messes and pull brass shavings away from a trimmer.  On the plus side, it has never exploded, and that is an endearing quality in something that sucks up gun powder and occasionally hot brass trimmings.  On the minus side, the suction is just so-so, and while I am not certain this is objectively true, I feel like the suction diminishes with the battery drain.  It doesn't seem to particularly like being run for more than 15 minutes continuously, either.  Neither of which are your use-case, but I've never even thought to use it with any of my power tools.  It doesn't have the capacity to trigger off another tool, and I doubt it would keep up with a router, nor do I think it would be well suited for longer duration sanding, nor have that much suction to pull up anything larger than light sawdust off the shop floor.  Plusses on portability and cord-freeness aside, it doesn't even clean my vehicle interiors all that well; shop vac does a much better job of removing Goldfish, old fries, and Oreo crumbs.

I actually plan to replace mine for brass trimming with a CTL SYS, because it can trigger off the trimmer and has more suction on main power.  I love most of my Milwaukee tools, but ironically enough, the vacuum sucks, though not in it's intended capacity.

Does it have to be a cordless setup? If not, I’d consider a CT15 and a long hose instead, much more sucking, and in the way you want. Have the newest M18 fuel 2.2 gallon vac, it’s the most disappointing tool in the platform for me, need to send it in for a new power switch after a month.

I've had two now, and they are great for small site work and small sized trash.  I use a Metabo 18v for larger jobs as it takes the regular hoses, I use the 36mm for most jobs, recently used it with Metabo concrete grinder to smooth out a concrete transition from shop floor to exterior parking space.  I also use it as my shop cleanup although that is mostly die to the fact that currently the shop is powered with a 10ga extension cord.  Once I have my generator hooked up I'll go back to using my 26.  I would recommend a line volt vac as that with a 5m hose can reach everywhere in my 24 x 30 shop.

If you are getting a cordless milwaukee vacuum, definitely get the packout version. Much better overall. I still wouldn’t use it with a wand, due to the hose and lack of wheels.

If you are thinking about the CTC SYS, make sure you are ok with having 6 batteries and 2 chargers dedicated to it, if you plan on using it for more than 10 minutes at a time. That’s the worst Festool product I have ever used, and I have thousands invested in Festool stuff. The runtime is terrible, bag is small, suction is poor. It fits nice in my Bott racking though. Hose and bluetooth are great as well.

I have the Gen 1 vacuum.  I like it and carry it in my truck.  Lately I've been using it to vacuum water off slab after rain.  Works great.  It can suck up 1 gal of water in under a minute.  You shouldn't have a problem using the vacuum with all the tubes.
