I'm looking to find a way to wall-mount a miter saw I got for X-Mas (Makita sliding 10in ls1019l) and take up as little wall space as possible.
My shop is one-side of my two car garage and I've already got it maxed out with a cabinet saw, band saw, jointer/planer combo, mft cart/tracksaw cutting station, cyclone dust collector, outfeed table with built in router table with a lathe and spindle sander stored underneath. Everything is on wheels so I can reconfigure the setup based on the project, but space is at a premium.
I see myself using the miter saw basically to cut down long stock, lumber, flooring, trim. Due to space limitations, I actually got rid of a 12in sliding miter years ago and with the crazy amount of tools I have I found ways to not really need one....though it would've been incredibly convenient to have for certain projects (ie re-trimmed the exterior of my house/laid hardwood flooring, etc...). My old man is a big miter saw proponent and surprised me with the 10in slider last week...it's a lot better design than my old slider as the saw slides forward on the rails so I can mount it closer to my wall and save a lot of space. I'm not sold on needing it based on the space it will require in my tiny shop, but it was a gift that I'm incredibly grateful for and he keeps asking about it, so I'm going to put it to use.
From my searches the setup in the drawing seems to be a viable option as I won't be using the saw all that regularly, but prefer to have it somewhat accessible vs. just storing underneath a table....I know from experience with my lathe that if I have to pull it out and setup, I'll hardly use it.
I figured I'd come across more solutions in my research, but most folks seem to either have a massive miter station with built in drawers/fences, a cart with extendable wings or flip top/dual tool cart, or just a metal contractors stand.....and I don't have room for any of those things.
Has anyone built or came across something similar to this drawing? I'm looking for some design inspiration and a good way to possibly incorporate stop blocks into a setup like this.
Thanks for any suggestions. Cheers!
